Espresso shots are usually served in mini-mugs. (And, given that Chuck never does anything half-way, it doesn't surprise me in the least that he would like his coffee to be the super-concentrated, super-strong espresso shots.)

Ed always makes the most cutest, mischievous faces whenever they give him a mini-mug on the show, and, I have a serious weakness for those faces. So, this parallel totally makes me squee! (Alternatively, a Chuck drinking bourbon parallel would make squirm since the character clearly is just a functioning alcoholic.)
