misfits out of time

Lip lets his almost smoked out cigarette fall from his hand before he steps it out. "Why are we doing this again?" he asks AJ, glancing at her before taking in the crowd of people all wedged into a fair-like atmosphere. Lip hasn't ever been to Coney Island and never really felt the desire to come since his arrival in New York. But the ten year old ( Read more... )

"Because you've never been!" AJ's not at all shy about grinning like the 10 year old she feels like right now, reaching forward and clasping their hands together so that she doesn't lose him in the crowd. "And I haven't been in years. You won't get a better candy apple anywhere in the United States. Trust me, I've tried." The ferry pulls into the port of the island, but the screams and laughter and chatter was audible from forever away.

The crowd starts to push forward and AJ presses against Lip's back, her other hand looping along his elbow, keeping close as they finally make it on land. "Don't laugh, okay? I'm always a little wobbly after that." After being on the shaking ferry, it's a little weird to be on solid ground now. But that doesn't seem to hinder her excitement, her hand dropping his elbow but the other staying in his was she leads him towards the ticket gate.

"Ahhh," Lip replies with soft sarcasm and a head nod before she continues her explanation. He chuckles briefly at her, shooting a side-glance her way accessorized with a perked brow, "Candy apples. We're really going for the whole experience here, aren't we?"

His attention is turned to the rapidly approaching port, pulling her hand closer to his chest so as to easier side-step skillfully around the tourists and other New Yorkers. Lip drops their intertwined hands back to his side once they're in the clear, allowing her to lead him in the right direction, albeit slightly shakily. "If only I had a nickle for every time you've said that," he mutters under his breath with a failed restrained smirk before a polite blankness rests on his face as they approach the ticket gate, reaching his free hand into his back pocket to retrieve the money.

"When have you ever known me to half ass anything, Gallagher?" She grins back at him. "Trust me, by the time we head home, you'll be glad I talked you into this."

"You'd be almost as rich as me." AJ teases, leaning up to nip at his earlobe before her steps take her back from where she's pressed up against his side. They reach the gate and she pays for her own tickets (this was her idea. The least she can do is pay for the ferry and her own ride tickets), her hand finding his again as soon as they're inside. It's Saturday, and the place is ridiculously crowed. Way too easy to lose each other, consider neither of them are very tall. "Okay. First things first: we eat."

"We'll see," he returns simply, but he's just giving her a bit of a hard time. He doesn't think he'll doubt coming, honestly.

Lip shoots a smirk AJ's way as she leans back down before exchanging his own money for tickets. His fingerless-gloved hand takes her own as his gaze peers around them briefly before turning back to AJ. "Gorge ourselves on candy apples and questionable hot dogs before ralphing everything up on the teacups. You're right, I am glad you talked me into this," he finishes, flashing her an honest smile, allowing her to lead him in the right direction.
