If you don't mind self-recs, I've got three fics in which I take something in Brian's past (specifically Joan and Jack, and how they treated him) and how that affects him when dealing with life, Justin, cancer...
The Most Important Place - post 513, Joan Kinney dies.
Hold Your Head High, Heavy Heart - Brian feels the shadow of Jack when he finds out he has cancer.
On a Dark Night I Pondered - Brian reflects on his various visits to the hospital throughout his life.
