I just read "You Can't Compare" by MrsBeck1208 and absolutely loved it (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3993707/1/You_Cant_Compare)! Peansong has an entire body of work that covers these issues with the entire family but focus on Lindsay and Michael.
I have read the stories over and over and enjoy them still as much as I did when I read them the first time.
The stories follow each other and are marked clearly so you know where to srart and where to go next.
They are long stories but again I love to read these and hope you check them out for yourself.

It's been awhile since I've read it, but I think "That Happy Feeling" by Rizabeau might be what you're looking for. Maybe the Plans series (plans, decisions, desires, risks, families, beliefs)by Xie....it's been awhile since I've read that one too. They may or may not be what you're looking for...now I have to go reread these to make sure! ;-)

Off the top of my head I know that I've read the "Plans" series and I recomend it to anyone who hasn't read it. I will be checking out "That happy feeling" though so thanks for taking the time to respond!
