Brian is an author and becomes so engrossed in his writing that he is forced to stop and Justin takes him away to recover. Strange things happen including Brian being topped by a ghost. Then they discover his mother's family.

Possibly The House at the Far Side of the Lake, by Ashleigh Kinnerson? (I’m basing this off an earlier search for a story that included this description: I'm looking for a fic where Brian and Justin goes to a cabin by the lake and Brian finds that a family living across from the lake is his extended family. It turns out that Joan came from this family. After talking to the family, Brian finds out that this family is wealthy and they want Brian to take over the family business since he is the only male relative alive.)
Unfortunately, I can’t check the story on the author’s website (ridiculouslyromantic) because it’s defunct. If this sounds like the right story, maybe someone has a Wayback Machine link or has a pdf of the story.

Stumbling around in the Wayback Machine (I don’t know how to use it properly), I also found this capture of Ashleigh’s website. I tried clicking on The House on the Far Side of the Lake and was able to access the first chapter but wasn’t able to open the rest of the chapters.
