Thank you! I did have lots of fun writing this, particularly the dialogue. I'd almost forgotten how much I love writing my version of Spike (more English and more foul-mouthed than the original, I think.)
I certainly had fun reading it.
Great! I'm very happy to have provided some entertainment. :-)
You know, this is a pairing that by all reason should not have worked. And yet, you made it totally probable! I am in absolute awe of what you did with this prompt. Spike is just so Spike (which just makes me delerious with joy, because I HEART evil!Spike with his snarky exterior and helplessly loyal interior). And I can totally see Fraser getting to this point if he were to deny his feelings for Ray and move back to Canada alone after CotW. Thanks for this amazing story!
And thanks for this lovely feedback! I chose this prompt because I love Spike almost as much as I love Fraser, but it was initially difficult to work out how they could get together. Once I'd sorted that out, the rest mostly just happened. Spike is such fun to write (English slang for once! Wha-hey!) and poor, sad Fraser, well, it's all too easy to imagine him like that.
Yay! My oldest and newest fandoms collide! I love it ♥
"Well, you stupid wankers, both of you," Spike said.
Yep, Spike hits the nail on the head. XD
And, oh, I've been craving this for so, so long - since I left the Buffy fandom I've been sadly lacking in good, hot, blood-play fics. ;_;
Wanna know something funny? I was halfway through reading this when the phone rang, I shouted at it "Go away! I'm busy reading porn!" but it didn't listen, so I went to answer it. It was Hubby, who asks me out of the blue "What's Spike's real name?"
Me: o_O WFT? He's at work, how does he know what I'm reading? "Spike from Buffy?" Him: "Yeah" Me: "William......" Blake? ".....Ummm"
Turns out he wanted to know James Marsters name, not the characters. But, yeah... /random
Mine too! I didn't even know what fandom was until helenraven introduced me to Buffy. I then went on to live and breathe in Sunnydale for about a year, a bit like I've been living and breathing DS recently. (Funnily enough, I never really clicked with the BtVS slash, though.)
Anyhow, I'm very pleased this worked for you. It's great to get feedback from fans of both shows. Spike's a real favourite of mine and it was great to write him again (my earlier attempt was another crossover *coughs* and the bits with Spike in were definitely the best parts.)
Your story about your hubby's phone call? The weirdness of coincidence! Great timing. Do we actually know what Spike's original name was? The idea of him travelling with fake papers as William Blake just amused me.
I was writing slash original fiction from some kind of early age when I shouldn't even be aware of this stuff (when your heros are Marc Almond, Freddy Mercury and Kenny Everett, you become aware of stuff...). But I was 16 before I descovered fandom and what slash actually was when I accidently found a webpage devoted to Angel/Xander. That was it then, I'd found my heaven. Always prefered Spike/Xander though, personally ^_^

My brain could just be inventing this, but I'm sure it was William. William the Bloody (as in Bloody Awful Poet). No idea what his real surname was, but I could see him being amused by using Blake as well ^_^

You weren't the only one - I had serious doubts, too. I'm glad you liked the end result. Thanks!

*takes one infallibility point*
My favourite line:
...other than Diefenbaker, of course, and his opinions - while invariably well-meant - do tend towards an inevitable canine bias.
