ETA: Posting to the right journal this time...

Hi everyone. Can you believe it's that time of year again?

The dates for get/together this year will be Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October. If you're in a position to take Friday 5th and/or Monday 8th off work, then there'll be the usual Slackers' Lunch and Wind Down type activities, but I'm also ( Read more... )

Note to others who aren't on twitter: I've just syndicated get__together's tweets on LJ: gettogethertwit

(It kept declining my subscription names, so I got random and this one isn't particularly well thought-out.)

ETA: It's getting errors, so I may have screwed something up. *sigh*

Yay! This is about the time each year that the grabaseats show up so I was hoping for an announcement. I plan on a longish weekend and will try for some time on either side of the core weekend.

You betcha! Hotel we had last time okay? I thought I'd book a couple of rooms again and see who shows up. Early days but it sounds like the usual suspects.

Just bought my plane tickets tonight. Getting in 8am Friday so will probably drop off suitcase and go shopping then hope to join in the Comics event. And leaving afternoon on Monday. So lots of time to catch up.

October seems so far off still... sigh

Grabaseat has specials until midnight tonight I think

Hooray, get/together! :DDD I'm flying in on Friday evening, and don't get in till 10pm so I'm pretty much not going to be seeing people till Saturday morning. :/ I don't have flights home yet, but unless I can pick up some extra days at work I'll be going home late Sunday evening. But I am excited to see everyone!

I'm pondering booking a block of three rooms now where we were last year and then the week before cancel the extra if not needed. What was the opinion on the hotel? Willing to do it again or is the Auckland contingent going for a different lodging option?

Hrrrm, I'm not 100% sure? I think I would only want the hotel for the Saturday night myself -- I'm planning on crashing on someone's couch for Friday night since I get in so late; it's just the in-between night I'd like to be both close to the venue and the airport. Not sure about the others, though -- speak up, guys?

I found the hotel good, will most likely be for Friday and Sat night.

Put me down as a maybe for now, still not sure of the financials as this is not too far from Auckland Armageddon, but I would like to make it down.

Yay! :D

I am interested in the comics thing, but I get back from overseas on the Tuesday before g__t so I'll probably be unable to wrangle a day/afternoon off in Job I Hope To Have, but we'll see.

I will start pondering topics/fandoms.

*pokes nose in shyly* I've never done this before, but I'm interested... I'm in Auckland so any help on what to do/organise/figure out/suggest would be very welcome.

Welcome!

Well. Where to start...

First off, let me say, "Have at!" We can be pretty raucous in the sense of having a lot to say and loving to catch up, but we're all pretty nice so there's no need to be shy.

Have a look at the timetable tag on the comm, if you want to see what we've done in past years: http://get--together.livejournal.com/tag/timetables -- that should give you an idea of the sort of thing we get up to.

If that sounds like fun (it is, I promise!) then come along. Basically at some point nearer the time I will ask for subs, which are usually about $30 and need to be direct credited to me, and at that point you can fill out a registration form, which is basically just a gtky so we know what fandoms you're in, what snacks you like, and other matters of grave importance.

Then decide when you want to come down to Wellington and how -- that's up to you -- and what you need in the way of accommodation. dewey3067 usually makes a group booking at a hotel ( ... )

That's an awesome start - thank you so much! I feel welcome already.

I'd definitely be in on the group booking thing as I'll probably come alone, though I'm hoping to convince at least one other person to be in on it too (although she's from Nelson way). I'll try and take the extra days off work so I can come for the whole weekend, but I'm also likely to drive down as I have no idea about what happens at the airport otherwise (can you tell I did a big OE for six years twenty years ago, but my domestic flying experience is close to NIL?), and I feel safer knowing I have my own transport. I'd also be willing to have passengers or share driving and petrol costs if anyone else is thinking about coming from this part of the country.

I think I'd be happy to just observe first time around, but if it's as fun as it sounds (I'm sure it is) and once I've experienced that, I'll probably come out of my shell in future years.

Thanks again! Definitely hoping my plans to escape from the family work out! ;-)

I'm 97% sure there's a courtesy shuttle from the hotel to the airport and back, fwiw. Watch the accommodation posts as they eventuate.
