"You are still totally in love with him, aren't you?" asked Mac, chewing thoughtfully on her tofu wrap.

"What do you mean?" asked Veronica. It wasn't that she didn't know who Mac was talking about. In fact, she couldn't quite get over the fact that Mac had spent the night at his place yet again.

"You know, he gives me the same evasive maneuvers when I ask about you," snorted Mac. She really had undergone some change in the last 24 hours, because she was sick of Veronica's denial and determined to knock a hole in it. It might mean she got less of her new friend Logan, but it would mean two happy friends and that would be an improvement. She was sick of both of them playing star crossed lovers.

"You two are so much alike, you really deserve each other," Mac added. She stared pointedly at Veronica.

"I'd rather date Dick," Veronica said unconvincingly. "And the rest of his frat."

"The woman doth protest too much," quoted Mac, mangling it for her own purposes. "Why don't you just admit it? Is it really that difficult?"

"He seems so different... more like he used to be, but better, since he's been around you," whispered Veronica.

"He wears himself out pretending." Mac shrugged. "He doesn't have to pretend with me. Friends are easier than girlfriends."

"I know." Veronica's voice was small. "I don't think I was ever easy, no matter what the rumors said."

"You still want him," stated Mac. Veronica didn't answer, so she continued. "You're going to have to be the one to make the move."

"He couldn't possibly want me anymore," said Veronica, barely audible. "I've been so awful to him."

"He does." Mac was absolutely positive, and her confidence showed in her voice. "He probably always will."

"I'll think about it." It was as much as Veronica would concede. She didn't add that she couldn't stop thinking about it.

"You do that. And when you think about it, think about ways you two might trust each other a little more." Mac paused. "And don't take too long thinking about it, because he is a damn great guy and someone is eventually going to notice that and snap him up." Veronica looked slightly startled at that. Mac felt like she might have actually made an impact this time.

"Yes, mom." Veronica snarked. "Can we talk abut something else now?"

"Only if you promise me you will talk to him." Mac pinned Veroncia with a stern look.

"Yes, mom." Veronica repeated, feeling her heartbeat seed up. What the hell. If she didn't talk to him, the next girl staying over at his place might be much bigger competition than Mac.

Veronica held her hand up to knock, but oddly, the door opened in front of her as if by magic. Logan was apparently about to go out. At the sight of her, he stepped back into the room, but did not invite her in.

"Mac sent me," she said simply. Best to blame it on the one he liked. As far as Logan was concerned these days, Mac could do no wrong.

"Really?" He raised an eyebrow and draped himself on door frame. And damn, the boy was sexy. Veronica felt her familiar reaction: fast pulse, trickle between the legs.

"Can I come in?" Veronica tried to control her beating heart, but she could tell her face was flushed. Her hands were sweaty. She hated apologizing. She hated having to admit she was wrong. But most of all, she hated living without him.

"Mi casa es su casa," he smirked. "Well, except this isn't really my house. What can I do for you?" His expression said he didn't think there was much he could do for her. He was so wrong. She took a deep breath.

"Mac thinks I'm too hard on you." Again with the blaming of Mac. As if Veronica herself didn't think that.

"And what do you think?" Logan had caught the nuance, and she cursed him for knowing her so well. She stepped into his room and closed the door behind her. It was time to say it, to just rip off the band-aid.

"I think the way I feel about you scares the hell out of me."

Logan didn't say a word, just examined her with those bright intense eyes of his. Finally, with a small tremor in his voice, he asked, "And what way is that?"

"I'm afraid of what you make me feel... make me want. I try so hard not to need anybody, and I can't seem to help but need you. And you never do what I tell you to, and you are so frustrating and surprising and..." Veronica stopped, caught her breath. Whispered, "I love you. I still love you. And it makes me crazy to know you are with Mac, just hanging out and laughing and having fun. I miss hearing you laugh."

Logan stood still, blinking. "Um, I was just about to watch a movie. You wanna join me?" It was a total lie, Veronica knew it was a lie. Hadn't she seen him start to walk out the door? But he wasn't throwing her out, so it was something. Maybe Mac was right. Maybe he would take her back.

They sat down on the couch and Logan started up the movie in the DVD player. Easy Rider. It made her want to laugh and cry at the same time. It was so very anticlimactic. She had expected him to throw her on the couch and make mad passionate love to her. Or cut her apart with scathing comments. But all he did was sit stiffly and watch a movie he had seen a million times and mouth the words along with Peter Fonda.

Veronica stared at him as he ignored her. She wanted to leave, but she didn't dare. She wanted to shake him, jump him, rip his clothes off. But she didn't dare do that either. So instead, she fell into the banter of the movie. After all, she knew it almost as well as he did; he had forced her to watch it so many times.

"This used to be a helluva good country. I can't understand what's gone wrong with it," she intoned, doing her best Mad Jack. Then she burst into hysterical laughter. The quote was just too perfect for Neptune. Logan punched her lightly.

"Do not mock Jack. He's my hero." Logan bit his lip to keep from smiling as Veronica punched him back and they ended up wrestling and laughing. Logan pinned her, then got very still. The intensity was back in his eyes, and she could feel his hard on pressed against her leg. No matter how stoic he was pretending to be, he wasn't any more indifferent to her than she was to him.

"I missed this," he said quietly, loosing his hold on her but not letting her go. "I missed you. But Veronica, you have to understand that I'm gonna screw up sometimes. I won't always be the person you want me to be. I can't - I can't deal with you giving up on me every time things don't go your way." He sat back, breathing a little heavily, trying to hold in his emotions.

"Is that what I do?" Veronica asked, ashamed. She sighed. "I guess it is." She turned sad blue eyes on him, realizing for maybe the first time that the faults in their relationship weren't all due to Logan. His eyes met hers and he seemed to understand.

"Oh, God." Logan gathered her up in his arms, his eyes glittering with unshed tears. "I can't help it. I want to touch you. I want to make love to you. How can you do this to me? I should be mad at you, I should have some pride... but all I want is to just hold you again."

"You do it to me, too." Veronica touched his face. "I really do love you. Can we try it again? I promise to work on my trust issues."

"And I promise to work on my jackass issues," he smirked. "I love you, too."

Logan leaned in to kiss her and quickly the kiss turned hungry, intense. It had been so long, and it was so good to taste her again. Veronica's tongue licked the inside of Logan's mouth, traveled in little circles down his jaw and into just that spot behind his ear.

He grasped her tightly, centering her on his lap so that she could grind on his erection. The pressure and friction made him gasp in pleasure. His hands shook as they reached for her shirt buttons and he met her eyes.

"Are we really doing this? Again?" he asked.

"Again and again until we get it right," she joked, leering, but also sincerely meaning it. Logan smiled.

"Well, then, I really want to see you naked," Logan declared, pushing her shirt off and quickly unclasping her bra. "Ahhh," he sighed as he took her breasts in his hands. "How I've missed these. Hello, girls," he said, nestling his face into her cleavage and then turning his head sideways to scatter butterfly kisses across her skin. He took a nipple in his mouth and sucked gently.

Veronica threw her head back and moaned. This, this was what she had been hoping for. The meeting of body and mind that sent her to a higher plane. And left her feeling relaxed and free in a way nothing else did. This was the way to reclaim Logan, by staking her claim on his body once again. Then she would work her way into his heart.

"Can't wait," she said, reaching down to free his hard cock from his pants. "I want you inside me."

Logan's eyes narrowed and went black with desire. He had been planning on some slow and easy lovemaking, but if she wanted hot and fast make up sex, he was down with that, too.

"Condom?" she asked as she pulled his shirt over his head. He stared at her blankly for a moment. It had been a while since he had been thinking about condoms.

"Shit. I hope there is one in my wallet," he said. He scooted up to reach in his back pocket, purposely thrusting against her. God, it was beautiful to hear her moan again. He flipped through his wallet and pulled the little foil packet out triumphantly.

Veronica grabbed it away from him, gripping his cock and giving it a few tugs before rolling the latex down his shaft.

"Oh god," he moaned, gasping as she impaled herself on him. She was so wet. He made her that wet without even touching her. It made him tingle with pride...and with lust to know that he had that effect on cool collected Veronica Mars. "In a hurry?"

"This time," she said breathlessly. "I want you now." She brought her legs up into a squat and began pumping up and down on him. Logan's eyes rolled back and he clutched at her ass.

"Well," he panted, "This is your lucky day 'cause I don't think I'm gonna last long..."

He pulled her to him and burrowed into her chest, letting her breasts rub against his cheek as she rode him. She was overcome with her need and single minded in her pursuit and he loved every second of it.

"Oh.Oh.Oh." She tensed and gripped him, her muscles spasming around him. "Oh, God, Logan. I love you." He let her lock down against him, took her mouth in a possessive kiss as she rode out the wave of the orgasm.

"My turn," he smirked, flipping her over on the couch so that he could thrust into her. It didn't take him long, and he was pouring himself into her. "Oh, god, Veronica. Don't ever leave me again." He put his forehead to hers as he felt the white light burst behind his eyes.

After a couple of minutes, he rolled her on top of him, not caring that his legs hung off the end of the couch. He let his breath slow down, and nuzzled her hair. She still smelled the way he remembered, and he kissed the top of her head with affection.

"Okay, you got your quickie. As soon as I get my breath back, I am taking you into the bedroom and doing it my way... nice and slow. I hope you didn't have any plans for the rest of the afternoon." Logan tucked a lock of blonde hair behind Veronica's ear.

"My only plan was to get you back. And maybe I should call Mac and thank her at some point."

"Yeah, me too." Logan grinned. He thought of his new friend, and the fact that they'd be hanging out in groups of three again. "She's gonna be grossed out by all our PDAs."

"We gotta hook her up with that guy Eric." Veronica wiggled an eyebrow. "Then she can be involved in her own PDAs."

"I like how you think, woman." Logan picked her up and headed for the bedroom. "In fact, I like how you do a lot of things."
