Do you believe that their minds are restored to them in the afterlife?
My personal belief is that they are restored... because the dementia of Alzheimer's, or any other mentally-debilitating condition, is a thing of the physical body. Whereas the afterlife, of whatever sort one believes in, is a matter of the soul (or spirit, or what term you use for the non-material part of a person). You leave your physical body behind when you die, so therefore you leave its debilitations behind as well.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your comment.
I do believe in Afterlife, and I believe that our loved ones are there to greet us and that we are restored there, that my granny and all my other relatives are at peace there and whole again and healthy. I don't buy into the fire and brimstone my uncle spouts, I don't base my belief system on fear of punishment but on forgiving love. I am not always the best example of that forgiving, but I am, after all, human. I have been Pagan for a long time now, which is based on the cycles of Nature and sometimes nature is a cruel bitch. But there are also moments of pure delight and joy, and I try to see where those things even out, not where the pain outweighs the joy.
This has been a very difficult time for my mother, dealing with Granny's illness and the loss of her piece by piece. You have all the good thoughts I can send, because I know you are dealing with one of the cruelest diseases.

As you know, i'm going through the Alzheimer thing with my Mum. It's all beastly unfair.
Do you believe that their minds are restored to them in the afterlife (assuming you believe in an afterlife, i suppose)? G_ds, i hope so.
