Japan seems most appealing to me because it seems to have the least hoops. Of course Japan aside from that is appealing, but the lack of needing to take a $1,600 TOEFL class really helps.
When I was looking online for teach abroad opportunities, it looked like everywhere in Europe required one. I didn't look too thoroughly though so I'm probably wrong.
So, while I was living my reasonably bohemian 2 weeks in Paris this summer, I realized exactly how easy it is to be an English teacher in Paris, at least, if not France in general. What you need to do, and I know it's an old chestnut, is just, like, go over there, you know? Have you heard of Shakespeare & Co. bookshop? Authors and Aspirers can live there for 2 hrs of volunteer work per day for about as long as you can put up with the childlike senile owner. A good base from which to find work as an English teacher or at least an au pair, which is a good way to find pay and housing fairly quickly, by all accounts. I've been waiting months to have the time and memory recall to tell you this.
