Vector art . . .

Aug 19, 2004 23:00

I was up late last night working on this . . . it's called vector art and I learned about it from ignited who recently did a very, very good piece of Sirius/Remus vector art. Obviously, she knows what she's doing and I don't. I also didn't follow the photoshop tutorial beyond the basics . . . so I didn't make my anchors smooth, I didn't feather out my ( Read more... )

I like that userpic. Sad that I didn't recognize what it was until I read the text. xD

*laughs* Thank you Trey. I'm glad you like it. I do know how you feel too -- ignited is so much more artistically talented, both in icon making, layout design, vector art, webdesign, etc. It's frusterating! But, it's fun to try and play too.

I'm really sorry to hear you're having such difficulties with writing. But, I've been there before. I hope you get inspired soon. :)

That is AWESOME. I gotta try that!

Thank you! It's relatively simple, just tedious. There were two or so links in ignited's post (in the comments) of the Sirius/Remus link I posted on how to do it. I'm sure you could create a fun M*A*S*H one :)

I really love that Astrid photograph you used as a base (or as inspiration). Very stark and moody, and of course it's J/G, so...what else can you ask for?

I can't draw at all, so I admire people who can actually make something on a page resemble something in real life.

I love the photo too, partially why I used it -- the large scan I have of it is watermarked badly so I figured at least doing it with that I could do out the watermark.

The tutorial I read last night also said that it's best to use high contrast black and white for beginngers and I figured that was as good as anything. :) I'm only remotely decent at drawing (I've done free hand art that 'imaginatively' looks like who I've drawn) but this is basically a tracing technique so unless you mess up very badly with the pen/lasso tool, it's hard to make it not look like who you started with. :)

Someday I'd love to have a full size photo version of that photo (or the one of them in the attic with George on the chair behind John) hanging above my mantel. Someday. :)

How goes the writing?

The writing is going fairly mediocre at the moment. (Pauses meaningfully.) We'll see.

Here's an interview with Astrid that you may find interesting (I don't know if you've seen it or not): http://www.retrosellers.com/features10.htm

You can buy a print of those pictures signed by Astrid for a pretty penny at Rockstore, though US$200 may be a bit out of your price range! At least they have thumbnails of all the Astrid pix available...

*sends you good hope and vibrations for writing!*

I've not read that interview, so thank you for linking it. She's so precious. :)

I know that there are prints of hers available but I also know how very, very expensive they are. As of right now I don't want to get one but I'd like to hope in a few years when I actually have a mantel to hang it above that I could afford one as a living room/den/parlour centerpiece. :)

I love all her photos though so chosing just one would be hard.

Lovely! Do you have a drawing pad?

I once tried a Beatle-vector, though it didn't go very well, I must admit -- my mouse is pretty lousy. ;)

No, I don't have a tablet/drawing pad. I imagine that vector art would be a lot easier if I did. They're very expensive though, so I guess I can make due all right without one. :) My mouse is decent enough to work with for manips and this sort of thing, anyway.

I'd love to see you try some more vector art -- but I understand how it is with slow or clunky mouses (mice?).

that looks so cool! It's weird though cause it gives the impression George's taller than John but maybe it's ment to be that way to show George's the strong hold so John won't fall because he lost stu?
If that makes any sense! Haha

Hmmm, I never noticed but you're right, George does look taller. That's interesting -- he looks slightly taller in the original picture too! I really like your interpretation of it though, that George is the strong one for John, who has lost Stu. :)

I'm glad you like it too, thank you.
