Brilliant, young man. After all that foreshadowing that it would be Echo that offed Joss, for it to be Shannon and in such an, um, understated way - sheer brilliance. And now, Echo, all lonesome... but with Maddie waiting in the background :)
An unusual, fascinating, and, ultimately, brilliant novel. Thank you.
Thank you kindly! When I set out, "Echo kills Joss" was my failsafe if I didn't come up with a better ending. Having Shannon around through the whole novel, just quietly unassuming, felt so right. It fit in with everything Joss said about why she was a good assassin: no one ever suspects her because she's just a normal suburbanite.
And in the end, Joss DID have to die, because it really was all about Echo. This was the story about how she became an assassin. Joss was just the window into the world. :D
Thank YOU! Even if you're uncertain about a story, you still stick with it because you trust me. That means so much. ::hugs::
That was an ending I wasn't expecting, Shannon was just a side note the entire time and played such a massive role in the end. Incredible work my friend. I think this is one of the best thing you've ever written. Hope to see more from Echo in the future :)
Wow thank you so much! And yeah, Shannon kind of perfectly fit into the framework of it all. Right in plain sight but wholly unexpected. Remember the reason Myles hired Joss in the first place? No one suspects the pretty woman, no one feels the need to defend themselves. Even Joss wasn't immune to it in the end.
And things cannot be looking bright for Colin in the future. Two wives shot dead in their home exactly one year apart? Brother is going to be a 48 Hours Investigates special. ;)
I labeled the series as "Complete" on AO3, but there's always a chance of another story from Madison's POV, where she discovers the truth about her mother and seeks Echo out. We shall see. ;D
