On its ear, indeed! I find myself darkly fascinated by this AU, and if the inspiration strikes, I'd love to see more.

Isn't it? I was thinking about the AU card, and how to flip Castle. What's funny is I came up with this premise, but I forgot "Prison" was on my card! I was thinking I'd have to use Wild Card or "Journalists" for it. I was pleasantly surprised when I double-checked.

One thing I want to point out because I think it's too subtle to notice... in the story, Killer!Castle tried to be a writer and sent out his first manuscript 20 times. On the series, Writer!Castle points out that his first manuscript was rejected 21 times. So Killer!Castle quit just a bit too soon. :D

And also he's Richard Castle instead of Richard Rodgers because he changed his name to better hide his identity...

I did catch the 20 times thing. XD It didn't even occur to me to wonder why he wasn't Rodgers. LOL!

Me neither! I realized after I posted and didn't want to go back and change it. But before you or anyone asks, the one missing rejection isn't the big change. I don't think the series is holding back the fact Castle was a prepubescent serial killer. ;-D

WOW. Oh my god, this was amazing and original. What an incredible AU. I would also love to see more from this universe if you get an idea. Just...wow. Speechless.

Aww, thank you! It just came to me pretty much fully-formed. It really does seem like it would just take a tiny shift to make Castle go from happy-go-lucky writer to way-too-charming serial killer. ~shudders~

This is fucking fantastic!

I came with the idea of merily read it through not paying much attention (I'm not usually one for dark fics) but it captivated me!

You did an amazing job with this piece and if you ever wrote more in this setting I would be all over it in a second!

As much as I understand the need for warnings, I'm gleeful whenever someone overlooks them (as long as the result is happy and not trauma ;-D).

I kind of like the idea of meek Kate/scary Castle. You never know what the muse will inspire! ;-D

Everyone's got a bit of dark in them, and it probably only needs the smallest change in their genetics or past for that to be the foreground rather than the background, while leaving almost everything else about them basically the same.

This should probably be a more scary thought than I find it...
