"Knock, knock."
Kate looked up and then glanced sideways at Abby. "Excuse me?"
"Knock, knock," Abby said, still looking at the TV.
Kate sat back in the chair and said, "A knock-knock joke, Abby?"
Abby brought one bare foot up, pressing it against Kate's cheek. Kate laughed and pushed it aside. "Knock... knock," Abby repeated.
Kate sighed. "Who's there?"
"Orange."
Kate rolled her eyes. "Isn't the joke banana, banana, banana, banana, orange you glad...?"
"Not the way I tell it. Orange."
"Orange who?"
"Knock, knock."
"Abby, you're supposed to have said..."
"Shush!" Abby said, poking Kate with her foot again.
Kate sighed. "Who's there?"
"Orange."
"Orange who?"
"Knock, knock."
Kate glared at her lover. "Who. Is there."
"A yam."
Kate blinked, surprised at the sudden change in direction. "Um... 'a yam' who?"
Abby jumped up from the couch and went into the hallway. "'A yam' going to the bedroom. Care to join me?"
She disappeared around the corner, leaving Kate smirking on the couch. "I should stay in here," she said, shaking her head. "It would serve her right. Yep, I'll just..." She sighed and turned off the TV, hurrying after Abby.
She'd make Abby pay for the joke later.
