cabaret this weekend to support kidney transplant

A friend of a friend needs a kidney transplant, and so they're raising funds to help cover some of the costs. The live donor (a friend of the person in need) can't get paid time off work for the operation and will need time to recover.

They are doing a cabaret performance in Harvard Square on Friday & Saturday as a fundraiser. I'm planning on going ( Read more... )

Does their workplace provide short term disability insurance?

What is their workplace's FMLA policy on using PTO during FMLA?

Those would be good questions to ask, though I'm sure they've looked into it.

Also, for those unable to attend is there another way to donate?

I don't know all the details, but apparently the surgery was rescheduled after the donor had already requested the time off. His company wouldn't let him reschedule the time off (pretty crappy).

I don't believe they can be denied FMLA leave if it is medically necessary and can be proven. Which this definitely sounds like it can be. Then it would come down to what the company's policy on FMLA and PTO usage is.

Unfortunately, the usual policy is that the employee must burn all available PTO before the FMLA kicks in.
