Arrival: Bethlehem Hospital, Saturday Afternoon (03/04/06)

Mar 04, 2006 12:31

It actually struck Geoff as rather amusing -- if not maybe just a bit sacreligious -- that his first stop in this new city was a place called Bethlehem. And it taken him a little work to find the place too, considering how large Tropolis was compared to his London. But several stops for directions to "the hospital" later (and he was taking a chance ( Read more... )

Geoff was standing at the desk in the lobby, chatting up the women and trying to convince them he wasn't completely crazy, while he waited for (he hoped) House to appear. They'd said they would page him, and he wasn't going anyplace until they did.

So he was an easy target to spot -- is there another coat like that in the world?

And spot Wilson did. He'd had to come down to the hospital to answer an emergency page and was now planning to get right on back to his warm house and his even warmer lover whom he'd had to leave to answer the rassafrakkin page.

Caught in the mental preparations to make a fresh batch of gravlax, Wilson almost walked right past the poet but for the record it was the way his nurses were herded around, twittering that caught his attention.

Well that and a British accent asking if they might not page Dr. House again?

"Chaucer? Geoff Chaucer?"

Turning his head quickly at the voice announcing his name, Geoff felt a pang of disappointment, even though he'd known that wasn't House's voice. He was surprised and actually a little relieved to see Wilson standing there, though -- because that confirmed his belief, that he was in the right city, and most likely the right hospital as well.

"Dr. Wilson," he replied, holding out his hand with a tired smile. "Good to see you again."

The twittering nurses made room for the young doctor, although they didn't move very far away -- after all, Wilson himself was usually a target of their attention.

Though inwardly lifting a slightly curious eyebrow at the friendly hand that only a couple of months ago was as likely to take a swing at him as be held out in what looked like friendship, Wilson smiled a little bemusedly and stepped forward to take the poet's hand, giving it a firm, respectful shake.

"Indeed, Mr. Chaucer. It is good to see you." For House's sake if not perhaps for Wilson's own.

Blinking a little curiously, he gave Chaucer a quick once over with his eyes.

"You...aren't here for shall we say our professional services are you?"

Chaucer looked weary but not injured or sick.

One of the aides finally gave in a stepped away to make a phone call. Because they sure weren't having any luck getting rid of the guy -- although honestly, he was sort of cute.

But Dr. House would surely have better luck.

He hadn't even started work yet. He'd been in and out of the hospital a few times the past week, filling out paper work and whatnot, getting a feel for the place, but he wasn't due to clock in until Monday.

The call had his mind working over time, trying to figure out who would demand to see him. It had to be someone he'd known before coming to Tropolis, he reasoned. It wouldn't be Wilson or Simon or Susan, he didn't think. Unless something had happened to one of them. Aziraphale would have called him himself, or at least given more information than that ( ... )

Spinning around as soon as he heard the shout, Geoff grinned broadly -- a real, heartfelt grin this time -- and headed in House's direction.

"Greg House!" he replied, laughing, as he dropped his pack to the floor and held out his arms. "You have no idea how good it is to see you!"

It had been a long six months, tedious and lonely. And although Geoff had believed he'd never see the doctor again, it had been hard to really convince himself of the fact. Now he was glad he hadn't managed it.

There was something to be said for adrenalin and endorphins comparative to pain and acknowledgement of pain. His cane clattered tot he floor, and he didn't even notice. His leg was the least of his concerns at the moment, as his arms caught Geoff in a strong hug. He didn't care who saw, or what they'd think, he was beyond happy to see Geoff.

Only two days had passed since Cash showed up at the back door. Two of the longest, most miserable days House could rememebr in a while. He'd tried calling Geoff's phone, which only made him more aggitated when there was never an answer.

He'd spent a lot of time sitting in front of his piano playing heartbreaking melodies while Cash slept at his feet.

"Where have you been?" He managed to eek out at last, breaking away from a very deep and friendly kiss.
