I explained to someone recently that in my line of work (housewifery with occasional bouts of part-timing), the holidays are my equivalent of an annual Board meeting.  For weeks before, the workload builds steadily. For the second year in a row, January is turning into a writing month for me. I think it's for some of the very reasons you mentioned. The cold weather really makes me want to hibernate. My story lets me escape to a place where it's summer. This is win-win from where I sit.

I don't blame you at all for staying home to watch the inauguration -- and you probably had better seats than most of the people there. I was able to tap into the live feed on cnn.com so watched it at work. Great speech. Loved the benediction prayer.

Writers block is indeed insidious. Sometimes you've just got to push through it, write that wooden or wasteful chapter that you hate, hate, hate just to get back into the flow. Revisions are a wonderful thing ... or so I keep trying to tell myself.
