for trishkafibble: a much belated christmas present-type-thing. not exactly as requested, but the best i could manage. sorry it took so long. These are the stories John's mother tells him.
That was beautiful and heartbreaking and I wish this had been John's story in the show. I wish that the creators of SGA had been able to utilize the characters and world they created in the ways stories like this have done. I'm happy that John's father and mother loved each other and she loved him and he finally made it 'home'. Thanks.

Me too, which (as you might suspect) is why I write what I write. My huge frustration with SGA is that the writers had a long and rich history and a wide variety of societies to play with, but almost entirely ignored that in favor of making things go boom (or making Rodney alternately a massive woobie and a scientific superman). And when they gave us "The Outcast"--well. The chase-the-replicator plot was fun, but the funeral plot and richboy!John wasn't so much. (And where was John's mother in all that, anyway?)
Yeah. I can rant about the show all day long. Potentially awesome characters, flat-out awesome premise, and a whole lot of disappointment.
Oddly enough the replicator on earth with John and Ronon running around was Joe's idea and the funeral TPTB's. Joe never though John came form a rich family...very telling, huh?
Yup. There certainly wasn't anything prior to "The Outcast" to suggest John was from anything other than a middle-class family, or even that he had any family left.

The thing is, John's childhood really was mostly happy. I just keep writing about all the depressing bits. Dunno why.

That was a good idea for a background story! I like the idea that John's Mom was an Ancient and that she tells him about Atlantis.
Thank you for this fic!
