Libraries are good. I like libraries. There's just one downside: they make me spend more money.
No, I know, it sounds crazy. "But Anna," you're thinking, "perhaps you don't understand how libraries work. They let you borrow things for free."
To which I say yes! They do! Because they are insidious crack dealers. Oh, yes. They know what they're doing, the wily critters. They'll give you that first hit for free, and then cackle maniacally as you realize you've just discovered a book you love, something you can't live without, something you must have on your bookshelf to re-read whenever the mood takes you... but now you have to give it back. So naturally, you have to buy a copy to keep with you at home forever and ever, this book you weren't even sure you'd like in the first place and were only willing to try because it was free. And then you have to buy all the sequels. And everything else that author's ever written. And that's not all, because it will inevitably start all over again the instant the library lets you borrow something else you fall in love with. It's a vicious cycle of expensiveness!
Well, ok, I've been known to put some of the books I've read and loved but don't own on Christmas wish lists and things. But still! The point stands! Libraries are out to get you.
So, y'know, beware.
