Hmm...I have been considering buying a Kindle for some time now-well, that or any other e-book reader-but I was under the impression that, once you bought books off Amazon, they were, well, yours, saved in your own files and so on!

This situation sounds pretty terrible as a whole,I can only imagine what that girl has gone through!!!! It is making me think twice-and a lot- about purchasing a Kindle, got to admit!:/

Anything put a Kindle, when you do buy! Seriously, their files only work on their machine, so if Apple makes a much better one in 2 years you can transfer nothing.

Chapters, Google, Apple, all interchangable as far as files to device.

Anna, I've been waiting for someone from Amazon to make some kind of statement about this situation--as the story has gone so viral. Have you seen anything from Amazon to help explain what really happened here, and why the company behaved as it did?

The only statement I've seen released from Amazon's PR on the subject is this: "We would like to clarify our policy on this topic. Account status should not affect any customer's ability to access their library. If any customer has trouble accessing their content, he or she should contact customer service for help. Thank you for your interest in Kindle."

Which of course is ridiculous because that's exactly what Linn did, repeatedly.

I haven't heard anything more specific from them.

Well, I'm really glad I've never bought an eBook from Amazon. Don't get me wrong, I think eBooks are great, but Amazon's behavior was ridiculous, and is it Apple or Amazon that is trying to jack up (or down?) prices to shut everyone else out of the business?
