Steampunkery!

Oct 13, 2012 23:52

I promised last week I'd keep you updated on the steampunk ball my crew and I attended, so here we are. I know a couple of you were there (hi, guys!) and a few of you aren't particularly interested in steampunkery, so feel free to skip over this post.

For the rest of you brave souls, you just have to click on the cut tag.

Are you sure you're ready for this level of excitement? )

You look like you were having fun. And no one ever needs a reason to play dress up!

I think you're right about the reason it's getting popular is it's versatility. Women aren't pigeon holed into something demure if they want to look sexy - you can wear a corset with pants and look like your ready to go kick some butt. That and you can take it halfway, since it's so much in the details. Last year at Keycon, when I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt with my goggles, people still considered me "in costume." Most of the stuff I wear with my corsets are things I'd wear every day to work - the corset and goggles just punks it out. And the jacket I was wearing that night is now my everyday fall jacket. It's casual enough that with jeans and a t-shirt it's just stylish, but it's leather and looks kind of like it would pass as a WWII flight jacket, if you stick a pair of goggles with it.
