It saddens me how LGBT characters and characters of colour are so rare as to be noteworthy in mainstream fiction. Unless you are looking at an imprint specifically dedicated to these types of characters, they can be pretty hard to find. Why is this, though

I don't know what to think about this. First I was like: oh no, why would agents be like this over a gay character? And then I saw this article with a rebuttal from the agent in question: http://theswivet.blogspot.com/2011/09/guest-blogger-joanna-stampfel-volpe.html

So... I don't know what to think.
