Apparently, women don't read or review

Because women reviewers are so prominent in the world of book blogs, sometimes I forget that's not the case in print publications. It's no secret that books written by men, for men are often considered more "literary" than "women's fiction." You know how it is (or perceived wrongly to be): women write books for women, men write books for everyone. Also not surprising: the editors and reviewers who decide this are predominantly men.

Nothing new here, but you might be surprised at how wide the gap really is. According to VIDA, an organization supporting women in the literary arts, the stats are actually pretty shocking. There are charts for male vs female reviewers, male vs female authors reviewed, and some overalls. And there are a whole lotta men represented on those charts.
