baby turtles!

The long awaited moment. These guys hatched last May 1, 2007. Well actually, we were getting worried that they all died so we decided to uncover the nest a little to check on them. Lo and behold! There were 5 baby hawksbill sea turtles beneath the sand, just waiting for evening to come before crawling out of the nest and heading to the ocean. We

Oh, they're so cute! XD (And they reminded me of Squirt in the Disney movie "Finding Nemo".) But it's really sad that only 5 out of 93 eggs developed properly...:(

Are these the batch of eggs that were laid by the mommy turtle on the volleyball court? Or did those belong to the unfortunate first batch?

I'm so excited about these new ones, I feel like a daddy haha!

Clarifications on the "eggs on the volleyball court": 1) it happened on the basketball court in Miniloc, not the volleyball court, and 2) it happened a few years back :) These eggs came from the beach in Small Lagoon, while the first batch came from Malapacao.

But they are so cute!!! But are those boy turtles, or girl turtles? Or are they too tiny to figure out?

It's almost impossible to tell if they're male or female from the outside until they mature. Once mature, males have longer and thicker tails :)
