The city had changed so much since the last time he set foot there. The mini eatery at the corner that he used to frequent was gone too. That place contained many of his childhood memories. It was where he could feel the warmth of a real family. The eatery's owner was an ahjumma. She had three daughters and all three of them would help her out on alternate days. Sungmin remembered once he was crying because he felt touched by their family spirit and that nice ahjumma went over to hug him. He never felt so much love in his life before. The eatery was also the place where he found his first love, the ahjumma's youngest daughter. She had chestnut coloured hair and her eyes were a nice shade of gold. Sungmin knew that she was a really nice and kind-hearted girl. He knew it from the first time he saw her and he decided to be friends with her first. She fell for him in the end but he knew that their relationship would only go as far as friends, for his father would surely make the girl regret falling for sungmin if they became anything more. Now that the little cosy eatery was gone, Sungmin felt depressed. Those people actually treated him like family and he secretly wished they were his real family too. He wondered if they worried why he hadn't visited the eatery for ages and he wondered what they would have done if they found out he had an illness. He was pretty sure they wouldn't lock him up at home, instead they would have showered him with love and concern. Yes, that was probably all sungmin wanted. For someone to love him for who he was, not what he was. In fact, right at that moment, Sungmin didn't even feel loved at all. His father used to set him up on dates with other CEO's daughters, he knew that it was just for the company's benefit. Sungmin knew that he was just "for show". That was all he was worth. He felt that his father might as well have SOLD him even. Sungmin's stomach suddenly rumbled stopping all the thoughts in his head. He turned to his bodyguards, "Could you guys go get food for me to eat please?" He really desperately needed to fill his empty stomach, but he didn't want to be in a crowded place. "Yes, young master. We'll go now."Sungmin handed the two of them some money and told them to get food for themselves too. He waited in the limousine while the two bodyguard's went off to get food. This was what his life was like everyday, being served by people. Sungmin was sick of being pampered day in day out. Sure, he enjoyed it, but it started getting on his nerves. He felt as though his mother didn't trust him to do things on his own. Sungmin got tired of waiting in the limousine for the two bodyguards to return. He told his chauffeur that he would take a walk around before he headed out.
He wasn't sure how longed he walked for but before he knew it, Sungmin found himself at the neighborhood park sitting on a bench. Sungmin was watching a little boy playing frisbee with his father, he could see the love the father had for his son. He envied that little boy, he didn't remember his father playing with him like that. Since young, Sungmin had never played with his father the way the little boy did. Sungmin's father focused more on his work than on his son himself. Sungmin didn't realise how much he wanted to feel loved by his father till he saw the little boy and his father together. They looked so happy, the boy was beaming from head to toe. Sungmin wanted really badly to be able to experience that kind of love. To sungmin, there was never a father in his life. To him, his father was just another human being in the house. Sungmin's phone rang interrupting his train of thoughts. He sighed, his brother was calling, which probably wasn't a good thing. "Yobseyo?" Sungmin had a feeling that Sungjin didn't call because of good news. "Hyung! You need to hurry back! Father said that he contacted an overseas doctor for you and he's on his way home with the doctor. Hyung, hurry!" Sungmin was shocked, didn't his father mention that he'll be late today? Why the sudden change in plans? Sungmin thanked his brother for informing and quickly called his chauffeur.
Sungmin couldn't help but think about what trouble he got himself into on his way home. His father would be reaching home soon and to top it off, his mother would probably be scolded for she was the one who let him out. Sungmin didn't mind whatever punishment he was going to get. He just didn't want his mother to get into trouble. When Sungmin finally reached home, he was relieved when one of the servants informed him that his father had not reached yet as there was a traffic jam down the highway. Sungmin rushed up to his room and quickly changed into casual clothes. He lay down on his bed as he waited for his father to arrive home with the doctor. Sungmin was flicking the channels on his television when he heard the front door close with a bang, he got out of his room to see his father give his mother a tight slap on her cheek. "What do you think you were doing, letting Sungmin out like that?!" So his father had found out afterall. He heard no reply from his mother so he rushed downstairs and went over to hug his mother who was lying on the floor with tears streaming down her cheeks. "YAH! If you must slap someone, then i'm the one you should be slapping. Don't abuse my mother! You bastard!" Sungmin didn't know what got over him. He just decided there and then that he wasn't going to let his mother get hurt by this man anymore. The countless times that his mother was hurt, he could do nothing about it. He didn't have the guts to stand up to his father. But this very day, Sungmin had had enough of it. He wasn't going to stand aside and watch as his mother was being abused. Just then Sungjin walked out from his room to see what the commotion was about. Seeing that his father was about to whack Sungmin with the candlestick he picked up from the side table, Sungjin rushed over and grabbed his father's hands. "This is not what a father who truly cares for his son would be doing! Appa! Please, Stop. Stop all this now!" Seeing that everyone in the house seemed to go against him, Sungmin's father walked out of the house. Sungjin went over to where his mother and older brother were and bent down to envelope them in a hug. Though Sungmin took it as though he didn't have a father figure in his life, he still had his mother and his younger brother whom he knew would always be there for him. Sure, they may have little tiffs here and there, but a mother's and sibling's love will always be unconditional. Sungmin knew he could always count on them. He knew now, that they were what people call a real family.
