I don't know if this has been discussed before but I was talking to a friend of mine about television this afternoon and I told him about Generation Kill (he haven't seen it) and he got curious as to why I love the series that much because I don't live in the United States and the general interest in my country about Iraq and the war is not really ( Read more... )

I think the very first thing that pulled me in about the show was the cinematography - just the way they film it and frame they colour their shots makes up a lot of why I decided to keep watching. It's really kind of hard to say what it is about this so that's just so attractive, since it lacks a lot of the techniques that normal TV shows use to maintain viewers ( ... )

The visual part is stunning so yeah, I fell in love with GK immediately because of that awesome opening sequence ♥ And I love everything you listed here but especially this part:
I love that it's not some political war epic, that it doesn't take a stance; it just shows you the lives of these marines and makes them people, not just troops on the other side of the world. Yes!

I enjoyed how real it was. It wasn't trying to be dramatic or preachy, it was just showing us how these Marines lived their lives day to day. We got to know them :)

Yeah, I really really liked that they show them as just people :)

I loved the dialogue from the start, and that's really what sucked me into it. But what made me watch it is that i have an undying love of America and the troops.

It's just SO well written and full of awesome quotes and IDK, it's amazing that all that was real, I mean, the Marines really said all those things, it's just awesome! :D

what I really love about the miniseries and the book is the portray of the male dynamics and the way the guys act and how they relate to each other and build their relationships in that context.
This is my favorite thing about GK as well. The relationships between these boys are really interesting.

I live in the U.S. and aside from the relationships, I'm also really fascinated by how modern pop culture influence our soldiers. I love how unbiased it is as well and it really opened my eyes about the war.

Yeah, it's fascinating to see the way the relationships work in that environment especially because the Marines seem so different from each other yet the bonds they develop can be incredibly strong, that's something really interesting. And I think we are all really grateful for the unbiasedness :D

I just find really interesting the way men interact with each other and it's even better when you get to see the whole development in the relationships. I just love how they're guys being guys so that was the real appeal for me. Of course there were other things (the visual part, the military stuff and so on) but basically that was what did it for me so yes, I totally get what you mean.
