So I haven't posted in, like, forever. Time for an update. I'll skip over the political situations for the moment and just keep it to what's new in my world

You know, the Carolinas were not bad at all. I really liked NC better than SC...NC had this mix of high tech and centuries-old agriculture that was really appealing to me. I could stand at the front door of Red Hat, get in my car and drive for 30 minutes and be standing in front of a 150-year-old tobacco barn. NC seemed more work-oriented.
SC on the other hand really seemed more beach/recreation/play oriented. Think Jimmy Buffett. Nice to visit but it just didn't appeal to me, y'know?
Their idea of barbeque is ALL messed up. Mind you, I was born and raised in Texas, and C grew up in Arizona, so we both think of BBQ as being slow-cooked beef in a spicy tomato based sauce. So the first time we set foot in an BBQ place in Raleigh, they brought us shredded pork in a sweet vinegar sauce. WTF? It was good, but it AIN'T barbeque.
Then we go to SC, and their idea of BBQ is pork in a mustard sauce. Again, it's good, but not what I grew up on. Pig pickin's were a lot of fun though...
Glad to finally hear from you, boyo!! I was starting to worry, especially after I'd tried to call your cell # and got nothing for an answer. I'm glad y'all made it out there OK, especially with doing it as a drive. I can absolutely see not wanting to subject Natasha to the stresses of separation and flight. I'm also glad to hear your folks are enjoying having y'all around. If nothing else, it'll also give R at least some memories of his grandfather, and hopefully help your Dad have something to keep his interest and energy up
( ... )
Yah the cell # you had was for my company cell phone, which also pulled light duty as a personal cell. Since I was one of the founders of the division I could get away with it! But I turned it off and sent it back some time ago.

Speaking of nostalgia - I was looking at the CD of pictures you gave or sent to me some years ago. There were pix of our summer party at Wilson's house the year we graduated, and pix of a gathering in '89 when I was seeing Bella. There was also a pic of that big-ass rock we dug out of my yard in NC...
Do you have any plans to travel to TX during the holidays? Plane fares are expen$$ive as hell - they've come down some but are still pretty awful. If you're headed this way, let me know and we'll sync up.
Ahhh....I remember the pictures you're talking about. And those times. The party at Wilson's place....I seem to recall one pic during the daytime of us all, including Sarah and Joe Vasquez. The ones from when you were dating Bella were in Wilson's kitchen, and Whitler and Cartwright were there. I also remember the rock, the one that ruined the car jack! Damn, that was a project!!
Honestly, I don't think a holiday trip home is going to happen this year. As we're still working on selling the house, I'm more than a little reluctant to buy tickets now. It'd really suck to put down the money and then not be able to go 'cause we're selling and/or moving. It'd be just as bad to take the trip and then have that stuff come up while I'm gone.
*sigh*
I will make sure to let you know when I'm going to be down there next.
