Lovely beginning. Illyria is so alien, and without Wesley to guide her, and Angel and Spike to restrain her, there's no knowing where her desire for power might lead.

Thanks for posting this here. Tagging it with the title for future useage.

Thank you! And yes, you've got the idea in one - I had a lot of fun exploring Illyria in all her alieness - hope you enjoy. (You might remember me saying that I had quite a few fics I could post here. Am slowly trying to keep that promise.)

And will duly tag. :)

You need only use your author name and title for the following chapters.

I like the premise you're exploring. All the other post-NFA fics feauring Illyria include Angel and Spike at least, and sometimes Wesley as well. I also like the hint in this opening chapter that it was Knox's choice of Fred as the 'Shell' that has given Illyria the opportunity to rule again.

Yes, I remember that from last time.

*nods* Not that some of them aren't excellent (tkp's 'Man's Best Friends' has one of the best Illyria's I've ever come across), but letting her 'roam free' struck me as an interesting avenue.

Well aren't you shrewd? A*! :)

Interesting premise, elisi. :) I await the next chapter eagerly.

Spike's dead in DeadWar, so it's just Angel, but that's of the surviving Fang Gang. Illyria has a lot more human (and vampire) contact there. But I note yours has some of the same insecurity that I gave her....

Thank you! And it's so nice to post finished fic - there's no waiting around. (This took 9 months to write, even though it is so short. But it was being awkward...)

Illyria has a lot more human (and vampire) contact there.
Well some canon characters (and OCs) crop up, so she won't be entirely lacking in interaction. But what sort of impact they'll have is of course the important question...

But I note yours has some of the same insecurity that I gave her....
Illyria is so much fun to play with! *g* (And I have so, so little time to read fic. *sigh*)

How exciting! I noticed quite a few Illyria fics right after the end of AtS, but not so many lately. So I was very excited to find this one. when I wrote Illyria, it was generally for ficathons so I had to stay within certain parameters; Illyria without Spike, Angel and Wesley is an intriguing concept. I am looking forward to reading more.

Well this one *is* from 2006, but I'd had the idea for a while.

Not always a bad thing though... *g* And Illyria is a fascinating character. She's also in my WIP and I'm having lots of fun whith her there too.

I haven't seen anything similar anywhere else, which makes me rather proud. ;)

And there'll be more in a few hours! Thank you so much for reading.

Finally have gotten a chance to read this!

Busy, busy, busy; each one an alien conundrum of hopes and fears - thousands of disparate impulses guiding them in ways she could not understand. Strange, repulsive and illogical, and yet they had arranged themselves into a society as carefully as ants in an anthill.

LOVE this description of humans. Brings outs Illyria's superiority (complex) but also how well she observes everything.

*moving on the next part*

Squee! Surprise feedback! :)

Thank you! And yes, that's exactly what I wanted to show. As well as the fact that she can't actually *understand* humans - which was what she was aiming for with Wesley I think.
