"I'm sorry," Austin whispered, his callused fingers clutching at her tattered sleeve. His mother wrapped an arm around him and held him as best she could, watching as the jeep exploded. It was only a miracle that they'd all survived. If her husband hadn't woken up in time...
She shuddered at the thought. She hoped that her son would recover himself in time; he'd made the right choice, whether he believed it now or not. I couldn't have pulled him out of there like he did me.
For now, though, their family was safe and sound and that was enough.
