When initiative is *not* appreciated....

I just got an email that made me grit my teeth
and go,
"OH! It would be SUCH a shame if we reorganized
to the point where ANYONE
(including you, Only Full Time Paid Employee)
knew what was going on,
and actually COMMUNICATED
as if we were a COMMUNITY-BASED
MEDIA and COMMUNICATION NETWORK,
WOULDN'T IT?!And then fire shot out my nose ( Read more... )

work, jobs, complaining, radio

You're my MANAGER.

I have only seen Sailor so frustrated he was shaking TWICE.
I have heard it over the phone TWICE more.

Last night, was the second time, I've seen him shaking from frustration... he's upset over emails to him from my manager about a donation Sailor Gave, where my manager is trying to fulfill the gift they give in return... but instead is being very rude.

Although Sailor admitted part of his anger might be related to hearing my stories about the same guy in the last couple days. Ooops!! However, mostly it was just utter confusion at how RUDE and unprofessional our manager was being to him over a VERY kind donation Sailor gave last year.

You know Sailor... picture him shaking over an 80 word email, and mad for HOURS about it!! Like... SWEARINGLY mad... and shouting to get his feelers out!

On the plus side... to calm himself down he scrubbed dishes REAL GOOD for like an hour so he wouldn't write a nastygram in reply. Ha!!
A nastygram! FROM HIM!!! LOL! That's when you KNOW you totally fucked up!!

Sounds to me like your station manager feels threatened by your ideas.

I think the Station Manager is threatened by **ideas**. He tried to persuade the Chair of the Board of Directors there was "no need" to have a volunteer development committee (in lieu of a Development Director... which we can't afford)... and when that wasn't convincing, he backed himself into the "We can't BUREAUCRATICALLY do it. It's not **feasible** to launch a subcommittee right now." so the Chair went, "Hmm... no problem. It won't BE a committee.. it will just be a group of staff and volunteers who choose to show up on a certain day on a fixed schedule and discuss the Development agenda. Sound good ( ... )

I just can't wrap my brain around people being UNHAPPY that their job is less stressful, more efficient, and no mandatory overtime. How about asking for a raise for being so efficent and saving the company money by not needing mandatory overtime? These people have no imagination!

Boss is probably afraid that your ideas are so good that you will be the boss and he's out.

I don't WANT his job!
I just want him to DO *his* job! That would be like... AWESOME!!
That would just be WONDERFUL!

Some people make it their job
to not do their job
and yet, somehow
keep their job.

The world would run much better if people just did their jobs!

Agree 100%!!

I've used that phrase about people making it their job... not to do their job before... and it fits more people I've met than I can reasonably think about without getting angry!

People don't want to fight me. I fight dirty. I have no PROBLEM fighting dirty.

Gross. Ick.

There will never be fair fighting if there is someone willing to get underhanded.

When one person fights dirty, it makes other people think THEY should fight dirty... or have every right to.

Most tools you use in a fight you can clean up afterwards... but your mind and your heart... are not washable. They get *stained* by shitty misdeeds... acknowledged or not.
