twilight006 wanted to air her ideas on current U.S. politics.
We certainly do not share the same idea on a lot of current issues... but then again, that is the fun/horror of politics, eh?

You can read her most recent political post hereOf course, I wanted to share MY opinions... but I will be watching that post to hear what other people think. Im a pretty ( Read more... )

it is sad and depressing to see elderly Republicans that are financially unstable. (there are a few of them around where i live) they traded happiness for the illusion of morality and lost most of their gain to the illusion of free market. we are still at was because everyone in congress hates us. we went to war because the bush family hates America, but that was nothing new. even when the ball sack is slapping our butt most Americans would rather go to the mall then cry rape and get it to stop. in other news comedian Bill hicks has become relevant again.

Hear ye! Hear ye!

My grandma was desperately poor for half of her life (put in an orphanage in Montana during the Depression... 'nough said?) and filthy rich for the other half.... I dont know what her politics were beforehand... but sometimes the rural poor care less about politics than they do about day to day survival...

I think Americans heard the battle cry of, 'keep the terrorists from winning,... keep shopping!' and said, "phew... I don't have to do anything but go to Wal-Mart... thank god!" and haven't looked back since.

when anyone is on the bottom three rungs of maslows hierarchy it is most prudent to focus on survival and moving to a higher level. (it takes awhile but is worth it)
in WWII there was rationing and war bonds
in Vietnam there was the Draft
if only we knew then that the way to vanquish your foe is to buy cheap crap from China.

I love discussion!!! Especially with people who believe that they disagree completely with me. My ultimate goal, though, is to be able to articulate our samenesses rather than our differences, and the only way we'll discover those is to continue the discussion. I'll do it here, there, or wherever! I knew I was gonna love getting to know you! You're a great sport, and a fantastic debater!

My life is an open forum, so my journal should be indicative of that. Feel free to rant, rave, provoke, or just plain cuss me out if need be.

When my point of view is seen by others as unpatriotic, unAmerican.... I balk. I don't know what they mean. Since when does patriotism mean blind faith in government? Isn't there a speech by President Lincoln during the Civil War that says, and I paraphrase here: "Patriotism is not being afraid to tell the government what YOU want, and to stand up when they are doing something wrong." Then of course, Franklin... "People who are willing to give up freedom for security deserve neither."

Wow. Quite the contrary, your absolute passion for presenting your point of view is the most patriotic and American thing in the world! Political apathy is deplorable, and totally unAmerican.

Agreed! However, many people see dissent or any attempt at subversion during "war" to be treason. This war, at least. Im sure they were excited and passionate to dissent during the Clinton years or whenever they saw/see former President Carter on TV.

Moveon.org insinuates that Gen. Petraeus is lying to Congress, doctoring statistics and is in the pocket of the White House,... democrats are going "too far"... but Petraeus' superior Adimral Fallon is quoted as calling Petraeus a "sycophant" and "ass-kissing chickenshit"... and lets just sweep that under the run, shall we? We don't want anyone to know he may be untrustworthy!

Im tired of people who "have an opinion" but no facts, ideas or context to back them up. And so many young people who just say, "it doesn't matter who I vote for, they're all evil anyways" just don't know what they stand for or know that other people stand for what they stand for, too!
