Animals of Farthing Wood, books 3 and 4

At long last, my collection has been completed! I'm both happy and heartbroken at the same time. The last book was just... argh! And it's really sad there won't be any more books. I want MOAR, dammit!

Anyway, I haven't actually taken my time to read every word of all these three new books. I always read the more interesting parts first, skim over ( Read more... )

The third book in the series sounds really interesting. For some reason these events you describe sound a lot more horrific and serious in the books than in the cartoon. Maybe it's been too long since I last saw it, or maybe it just feels that way because it's animation. Anyway, the books are a lot more mature than I would have imagined ( ... )

This was when the cartoon began to get really different from the books, and the cartoon was a lot more... oh, I don't know... lighter? Less serious? That's most noticeable in the scene where Adder loses his/her tail. In the book, he's obviously in agonizing pain and can barely move or speak, but in the cartoon, she's smiling and rather relaxed! There's also the weasels, who became comic relief in the cartoon, and the characters in the cartoon just don't look as scared or angry as they seem to be in the book ( ... )

I can barely remember what the scene with Adder losing his/her tail was like. Did it look shredded?

As soon as you get any ideas for fanfics, go ahead! I'd love to read them, and I'm sure others would as well. The cartoons seems to be more popular than the books, but surely people wouldn't complain about that? Has there ever been any flame wars about books vs. cartoon?

Yay, the Jungle Book is a good choice. I've read some of them as well, but I can't remember much of them. They were a lot darker and more mysterious than the Disney movie, though (well, no surprise there).

By the way, have you considered Douglas Adams? I just finished reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for my clas, and it was so much like Pratchett that I would have been fooled if I hadn't known better. British humour at its best! :D

Here's the cartoon episode. The scene starts at about 9:00. For someone who just got mutilated, Adder seems to be doing great. >_> Not to mention her tail miraculously regrows in S3. (On a side note, it's so odd to see Adder as a female, now that I've got used to male Adder ( ... )
