Ah, Jeez

I just finished reading a 67-post thread about the trouble some bench jewelers are having with the Zales corporation. It boils down to, if you do the trade work for them (at wholesale cost), they expect you to charge what they have invoiced, even if they invoice it wrong, and you're supposed to throw in freebies to make their stuff look good that ( Read more... )

Unfortunately, I'm a little more serious about it. I may have to run for public office, or at least establish a lobbying group. Hopefully I can join an already established group like Jewelers of America,

What eats me is that this is an issue that would appeal most to Democrats (labor issue), and that bothers me unreasonably. You'd hope that any fair-minded individual would want to address the inequities and pressures the corporate bottom line mentality is putting on individuals.

We had a hell of a time with Zales over my old wedding band. The soldering was SLOPPY! They over charged us and didn't honor the sale that was posted all over the store. We ended up going to Gordon's to look because Zales wasn't going to have the soldering fixed in time for the wedding. Found the ring at half the price, and it was soldered correctly in half the time Zales projected. To top it off when we told Zales we no longer wanted the ring they didn't want to return the money for the insurance that had NEVER been used because the ring had NEVER left the store! I'll NEVER go back to Zales!

And ZalesCorp did not loose you as a customer, because GORDONS is one of their brands. Lousy sphincters.

This is why I go to family owned stores (like Newtons in Joplin) that have been around for 20 years or MORE and not BIGASS CHAINS (though Kay has really nice sales and low priced pretty stuff).

That, or I go with faire jewelers like Stormwatch.

I know this is late but I dunna care. I never liked Zales. If I had to buy anything I would get it at Helzberg. I worked there many many many years ago and I think they are fair priced. That being said, I thought it was wonderful that there were options on quality there and they would tell you what those qualitys were.

To satiate my curiosity, what is your current take on Helzberg?
