Chapter 1
“No,” was the first thing Kyuhyun said to his sister the first thing in the morning when he saw her waiting for him patiently beside his bed, smiling widely, hoping for a yes.
“Oh come on Kyu,” She wines, her smile disappearing.
“Noona, I’m tired of repeating no since last night, just give it up, and find someone else to go with you tonight at the party,” He says, stretching his arms while yawning in which Ahra, his sister, found amusing. Parties have always been Ahra’s favorite hobby, ofcourse for rich people, it’s no surprise.
“My friends are all busy,” She reasoned while standing up, slowly leaning on the bedside table and sits on the edge, careful not to bump her ass to the picture frames displayed.
“Your admirers?”
“Ewe, who told you to call them my admirers? They’re stalkers,” She opposed with a smirk. “They look like they were born out of a malfunctioned machine and their hair were like…licked by a hungry huge female cow,” She continues, snarling as she remembers how they even look like…if it’s even worth calling a face.
“Whatever…I’ll still say no,” Kyuhyun then proceeded inside the bathroom carrying a towel with him and Ahra decided to follow him. “Noona!” He immediately screamed when he was about to take off his boxers until he noticed his sister leaning by the sink. “What are you doing?!”
“What? It’s not like I haven’t seen it before,” Ahra said, crossing her arms and legs.
“That was a long time ago!” Kyuhyun yelled slightly blushing. “It’s grown up now!”
“Say yes and I’ll go out,” Blackmail may be too old fashioned but not in these kinds of situations.
“That’s just immature,”
“Okay fine, then I’ll stay here, and you won’t be able to take a bath, and you’ll stink-“
“You’re the worst sister ever,” Kyuhyun cuts with a glare.
“Just a simple yes, Kyuhyun,” She grins.
“Still no, now get out, or do you want me to drag you out?”
“You can’t do that to your beloved sister…now say yes,”
“Yes I can,”
What comes next was Kyuhyun’s fault and he has no idea because her sister was suddenly celebrating. “Finally! You said yes!”
“What-no-I didn-what are you talking about?!”
“You said ‘yes I can’, hah! I know you love me! Now go take a bath, I’ll tell the maids to prepare your suit by afternoon! Yipee!” And she left jumping with joy and Kyuhyun freezing in shock.
“Argh! Why did she had to be born first?!” He screamed with a pissed look as he kicks the toilet bowl and regrets it later because it hurts like hell that he needed an ointment.
Afterwards, Kyuhyun came down well dressed and fresh, hoping not to hear Ahra’s voice, or even see her face nor smell her as he walk down the stairs. “Good morning sir,” The maid greeted and he turned his head when he was trying to observe the area and smiled at her. “Are you looking for someone?”
“Yeah, my sister,”
The maid then smiled and turned her body to the side. “I think she’s at the balcony,” She said while pointing her finger.
“Oh thanks,” He immediately continued walking down, bent down leaving a clueless expression on the maid’s face as he walks away, going straight to the kitchen. If anything, his sister then came in from the balcony and the maid immediately smiled at her.
“Good morning miss,” She greeted.
“Has my brother come down yet?” She asks with a wine on her hand.
The maid then nods. “Yes, he just came down, I think he went inside the kitchen,” She answers.
“Thanks,” Ahra immediately walked away and followed to the kitchen.
“Good morning little brother,” Ahra greets mockingly at her brother who is eating breakfast at the table, his back facing her.
Kyuhyun shuddered then slowly turned around with a glare. “You are a creature that ruins a perfect day; you should get locked up,”
“Ohh, scary,”
“Evil,”
“Look who’s talking,” Ahra replies as she sits properly on the chair, fixing her dress while she’s on it. “Don’t you have school?” She asks taking a bite of the dried mangoes served at the table exported from the Philippines.
“School doesn’t start ‘til 8,”
“Oh…well, it’s 7:45 and…the car’s broken-“
“Oh shit! I’m gonna be late!” Kyuhyun yells, immediately standing up chewing his food then running away but came back for water then ran away again but came back for his bag then ran away again. It all happened in a split second but Ahra managed to catch it all and she laughs at how easily fooled his brother can get.
“I wonder why he didn’t ask the driver to bring him to school,” She heard the maid asks herself as she passes by the kitchen and she laughs again.
“You poor little thing…” Jongwoon, his friend since highschool said, sipping from his juice inside the school’s cafeteria.
“Not funny, Hyung,” Kyuhyun replies, laying his head on the table, tired from chasing after the bus and running for the gate when he finally arrived earlier this morning. He immediately lifted it up when he saw Sungmin walking towards them and he sighed.
“KYUHYUNNIE!!!” Sungmin squeals, tapping his hands on the table loudly.
“Ahem!”
“Oh hi Jongwoon,” He greeted plainly and made Jongwoon frown with the discrimination-well not really but he likes to call it that way. “Yah Kyuhyunnie, are you going anywhere tonight?” He asks excitedly with a huge smile on his face that’s creeping Kyuhyun out every day.
“Yeah,”
Sungmin’s smile disappeared immediately and was replaced with a frown then he sat across Jongwoon, beside Kyuhyun. “Sure?”
“Yeah, my sister insisted I go with her at the party,”
“That’s sad, I was gonna ask you to come with me at the Water park, my dad will close it for one day because of some renovation and we can do whatever we want!” He explains, completely forgetting Kyuhyun won’t be going.
“You can take Jongwoon instead,”
“Yeah, you can take me instead,” Jongwoon seconds, smiling.
Sungmin paused for a moment and thought. “Okay fine, I’ll take Jongwoon instead. You missed ½ of your life!”
“How is that ½ of my life?”
“Because you were gonna be with me, Sungmin~”
“Yeah…that’s it,” Kyuhyun says sarcastically.
The bell then rang and the students quickly packed up their things, finished their meals and groomed themselves to be ready back for classes as well as Kyuhyun, Sungmin and Jongwoon. But on the way to race to their own classrooms, unfortunately, Kyuhyun got bumped by this one guy, one fucking huge muscular guy that he ended up kissing the lockers and hugging bruises. Poor thing, he ended up in the clinic.
“You poor poor poor thing,” Jongwoon says, shaking his head while leaning on the wall opposite to Kyuhyun’s bed.
“Hyung, you should stop saying that, I am not a thing-ow!” He yelled in pain when he tried to move.
“Tsk, poor thing,”
Sungmin glared at Jongwoon then turned back to Kyuhyun immediately. “Kyuhyunnie, is there anything you want? I could get you a food or something,”
“Do I look like a paralyzed person to you?” He asks, completely pissed with the statement. “And this isn’t a hospital,”
“Kinda…”
“You know he exaggerates sometimes Kyu,” Jongwoon told Kyuhyun and received another glare from Sungmin. “Anyway, we have to get to class now Min,”
“I can stay-“
“Min, we, have, to, get, to, class, mmkay?”
Sungmin pouted with a glare but ended up giving in. “Alright fine! We’ll come by after classes Kyu!” He yells as he was getting pulled away by Jongwoon and Kyuhyun could still hear them bickering at each other.
After classes, like Sungmin said, they came by to fetch Kyuhyun with Sungmin already carrying his bag. After hearing from what happened to Kyuhyun, his sister came to check on him herself and doesn’t seem to be convinced. “You don’t look like you kissed the lockers, now where are those bruises?” She asks, craning her neck as she tried to scan Kyuhyun’s covered body.
“Like I’ll show you,”
“You impudent little thing,”
“I’ve been badly hurt noona, I need to rest at home,”
“In your dreams, now hurry up, get inside the car,”
Kyuhyun paused for a moment then looked at Ahra with a confused face. “You said the car was broken!”
“Haha, you never change, you still get easily fooled,”
Kyuhyun opened his mouth in disbelief then finally had the courage to yell. “I can’t believe you! Did you know I had to run all the way down from our house just to get to school? And FYI, I almost died during my long journey!”
“Oh yes I know, I saw, all of it, it was amusing,”
“Noona!”
“I’m just playing with you, now go inside, I don’t want to be late,” She insists while chuckling and gently pushing a pissed Kyuhyun inside the car then smiled to both Sungmin and Jongwoon before following inside next.
Kyuhyun sat silently inside the car, staring outside the window all by himself. He likes it when he got to this part of the journey, where all he can do is staring at beautiful scenery outside the window. Especially right now that they’re passing the bridge and all he can see blue, ocean blue, so wide.
He frowned when his journey had to stop and they arrived back at their house. Normally, it would only be him and his sister because both his parents had died already and his grandmother is the only person taking care of them but she’s unbelievably rich so it was handled easily by her and they had no problems with their expenses and finances, even tuitions and bills that they needed to pay.
“Hurry up and get changed Kyu,” His sister ordered. And figuring out that he couldn’t do anything at this point, he went upstairs to his room and put on the suit that was already prepared for him.
When he got down his sister was already wearing a red exotic cocktail dress that he wouldn’t even want to guess how much it costs. He doesn’t understand why his sister likes partying so much but he can’t do anything if that’s what she likes, she’s his only family now.
“Wha… Kyukyu, you look so handsome~” She compliments, brushing off invincible dusts at my shoulder.
“Just to be clear, this is your party not mine, so I’ll just stand there okay?”
“Okay, just do whatever you want,”
“That’s good,”
“Let’s go?”
Kyuhyun followed Ahra when she walked first to the car then went inside first, careful not to ruin his suit. It wasn’t long until he realized it was an hour drive from their house and he almost fell asleep during the trip. He regained his interest when they arrived at the place and looking at how big it is, it will be easy for him to sneak out and leave his sister behind. “Can’t you walk a little faster?” Ahra complains, looking at him lazily following her.
“I’m sleepy,”
Ahra smiled mockingly and grabbed the younger’s arm. “Yeah, and you’re hungry, now hurry up,” Kyuhyun can only sigh when his sister pulled him.
As he expected, he found himself behind the house, sitting at the garden all by himself later that night. He ate with his sister at a table, tried to chat with some rich annoying girls but got bored long after a minute passed. Then he wondered why the house looks so much ancient, it’s like the 21st century now and this place is stuck with wooden gazebos, wooden benches, attic displays and figurines, some historical paintings, none that interests him.
He growled when he felt a single rain drop touching his nose and swore in his mind. He quickly ran to a nearby storage room just around the corner of the garden and went inside for shelter. He isn’t sure if it was safe but he needed shelter from the rain. He took out his phone to dial Ahra’s number but frowned that it was losing its power and couldn’t make a call. He figured he just had to find something that can help him cross the heavy rain back to the house. But what did he expect from a storage room?
He looked around and found a lighter to use as light. Oh great, more ancient things. He wasn’t gonna touch them but curiosity killed him and unknowingly scanned the place. It was a small place with only shelves around the walls of the storage room occupied with ancient things. “I wonder how much these things cost,” He murmurs to himself, still looking through everything.
He then found a book, a book covered with dusts. He hesitated to get it at first but convinced it won’t do any harm, he went for it and opened it but much to his surprise, there was nothing inside it. He scanned the pages and was getting annoyed with the blank pages he kept on seeing so he closed the book. When he was going to return it, a loud thunder stroke, it almost felt like it was just on top of the ceiling and he jumped in shock, unknowingly dropping the book on the floor. He tried to calm himself and compose his breathing. “Damn thunder,”
His phone rang at the same time he knelt down to pick up the book. He took out his phone and answered the call without looking then picked the book up. “Hello?”
“Can you hear me?”
He paused for a second then replied. “I’m sorry, who’s this?”
“Wahh, you can hear me!”
He crooked his eyebrows, confused, and then spoke again. “I’m sorry but I think you got the wrong person,”
“Don’t hang up!”
He was surprised that the voice knew what he was gonna do and intrigued by the caller, he didn’t hang up. “Who’s this? Is this a phone date? Sorry I’m not interested,”
“You’re holding a book right?”
He was even more confused now. “Y-yeah…how did you know?” He asked anyway.
The voice giggled then answered. “I can see you,”
He froze. He’s alone inside a storage room and someone can see him. He felt himself getting scared and slowly held the phone away from his ears, his eyes scanning the place. He looked at the phone screen and was shocked. “My phone’s dead…” He said. Then who was he talking to?
He guesses it was natural for people to do something against their will but still did it because of curiosity. And so just like any other people, he held the phone -dead phone-close to his ears again and spoke. “H-Hello…?” It was a stupid decision.
“Hi!”
His eyes widened in shock.
“If you run away, you’ll die,”
He was even more shocked now and he was trembling. “W-what do y-you want…?” He asks with a trembling voice,, he’s hella scared right now.
“Open the book,”
“But there’s nothing inside it!”
“Just open it!”
He protests inside his mind whether to do it or not but his hands were already opening it and as expected, there was nothing. “See? I told you there’s noth-“
“Turn to the middle page,”
He gulped and then turned the page slowly and when he found it, he saw a drawing of a young boy standing beside an older guy. “Can you see the young boy?” The voice asked.
“Yeah,”
“That’s me,”
“Huh? Your voice sounds old,”
“I’ve grown of course!”
“What do you want me to do now?”
“Draw wings behind the boy, two of them, spread,”
“What?”
“Just do it, or do you want to die?”
He gulped and thought for a moment, not that he needed to anyway. He had no choice. “But I’m not good at drawing,” He tried to say anyway.
“Just draw!”
He immediately grabbed the pencil nearby and tried to picture what kind of wings he would draw but the storm outside made it hard for him to focus and concentrate. He could also hear the person tapping his fingers on the other line. The thunder stroke and he slipped the pencil, drawing a very outcasted line but still connecting to the wings. “Oh My God, erase that,”
“Huh?”
“The line there, I can’t spread wings with one feather sticking out,” He explains irritatingly.
Kyuhyun thinks this person must be a psycho to demand things like this. Still, he erased that one line and continued on drawing until he was able to finish and he almost forgot he was talking to someone on the phone. He sighed and dropped the pencil hoping the person won’t demand him to pick it up because it’ll really be ridiculous
