Um. Crazy idea.

So, there's been this flooding in Germany, right? Like, lots and lots and lots of water in cities from Bavaria to the North Sea and lots and lots of people from various organisations, like Red Cross and the military and stuff, right? And I kind of remembered that back in 2002 when there was some bad flooding, too and I was between military service ( Read more... )

*gentle nudge* If you want to do it, and it does sound like something that'd be great, both to do and because it'd be helpful, then go for it :)

Thanks for nudge ♥ The plan is to maybe call ahead or write an e-mail to the nearest unit to see if they're actually there (lots of THW units from all over the country have been deployed in the efforts to fight the flooding) and then pay them a visit next Wednesday, to see if I feel okay with them. The older I get, the more I'm afraid of meeting new people :S

Sounds like a good plan :D I don't mind meeting new people, but when they're people you have to work with it comes with those obligations to remember what they tell you and their names (oh boy am I bad with names) so I'm better with strangers than I am with new people I think I'm going to be around a while, heh. Today I met some of the people I'm going to be on a team with when I've finished training (I got a new job a few weeks ago) and they seem like a good bunch, but yeah, established team and everything, and I keep repeating names to myself. But then if I don't try and fit in I never will. Which is to say, let's do this people thing :D

\o/

Same here! Strangers are fine, but for people you're going to work with for longer, you need to be conscious of first impression and you have to take care of so many things (like names :D). I'm particularly bad with first impressions because I tend to be shy and reserved at first and then people apparently think I don't like them or something :S

but yeah, established team and everything

I know. They had all those bonding things and in jokes and stuff and you're the new girl... and knowing how group cohesion works in theory doesn't make it easier, either :S But having to fit in established groups will always be part of job and private life, so I might as well jump in right away, right?

Which is to say, let's do this people thing :D

Yes, let's! :D

I know exactly how you feel because I have a similar problem when it comes to meeting new people, making a first impression (because I'm shy too, but some people think I'm arrogant because I don't talk much in the beginning). But if this is really your thing, you'll get to know everyone in no time and laugh about yourself afterwards. No one is going to bite you.

Even I survived starting my new job a couple of years ago. ;-)

You can do it!

Heh, thank you :D

(because I'm shy too, but some people think I'm arrogant because I don't talk much in the beginning)

Same here. I'm alway afraid of the first impression that I'll leave so I try not to be too enthusiastic or showing off or whatever and then I end up beeing judged as quiet and possibly arrogant.

But if this is really your thing, you'll get to know everyone in no time and laugh about yourself afterwards.

That's what I'm hoping for :D

Aw, thank you ♥
