Argh. Dear f-list, if any of you (apart from asugar who seems to have disappeared :( and mackenziesmomma who's been trying to solve this question with me for an eternity now) knows anything about the UCMJ and non-judicial punishments, please tell me if you've got any ideas for this:

what about a verbal warning? That way it would be the "slap on the wrist", where he know what he did wasn't tolerated but at the same it wouldn't go on his permanent record and harm his chances for advancement.

Now I'm just assuming all of this so if you find a better answer feel free to ignore ;)
