I'm waiting to hear the speech. I want to know what he's going to say.

Because this news makes me absolutely furious, frankly.

You and me both.

I don't know how he can quit before every vote is counted. Ohio is still in play. And all those voting irregularities. How can he just give up?

I feel betrayed.

Help me out here. I don't understand.

Kerry just conceded. He phoned and said 'congratulations, Mr President.' I thought Ohio had finished counting?

Shiplizard from a public computer says:

It's statistically impossible for him to take Ohio. He's 150,000 votes behind Bush, and there is an upper bound of 250,000 uncounted ballots. To win, if we give him the upper limit, he needs two hundred thousand of those. That's 80%.. and not going to happen.

Subject to the lower limit, 150,000 uncounted ballots, he'd need 100%. So he did the polite thing and conceded.

I'm not HAPPY* about him doing the polite thing (Democrat, rhymes with doormat) but he had reason.

*(upon hearing the news, jumped out of seat and shouted "Mother loving son of a..." and then started substituting euphemisms in German)
