That was lovely but so melancholic, like many of your stories.
Thank you for saying it's lovely. I think you're right about melancholia creeping into a lot of my stories; I'm not sure why, though.
You deal with the substance of childhood fears so well. Can you remember your own fears that clearly?
Oh, yes. I remember quite clearly. Regulus' terror of thunderstorms is autobiographical, or as autobiographical as an adult remembering childhood terror can make it.
Although I recognized the quotation, I couldn't remember where the lines were from. Thank you for the citation.
If she's Electra, than who're Iphigenia and Orestes? *fwaps bunny*
::laughs:: Don't blame you for that. Electra is a star name, as well as a mythological one--it's one of the Seven Sisters, or Pleiades. The Seven Sisters are Merope, Alcyone, Celaeno, Taygeta, Asterope, Maia and, of course, Electra. Atlas and Pleione are the parents of the Seven Sisters in mythology.
Here's a picture of the Pleiades, with all the stars properly labeled:
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw. I wanna cuddle poor Regulus so badly now. It's amazing how well you managed to sketch out his terrible home life without descending into the usual tiresome recital of beatings and mutilations and rapes and what-not.
Emotional pain can be even more devestating than physical wounds sometimes.
And the way you contrasted the brutality of Regulus' parents, the casual cruelty of Sirus and the unexpected, mysterious kindness of Electra was just heartbreaking. That modified song... gaaaaah. Words fail me. It's like an emotional punch straight to the core.
...And in your canon, what did happen to Electra? That's an interesting story all on its own, and I'd love to read it, since I'm sure you can keep away from the dreaded female OOC Mary Sue Syndrome.
Thistlerose created Electra Mirzam Black, not me. She felt that Sirius was more of a rebellious middle child than an oldest child.

On a Wing and a Prayer by me. That's my AU spin-off of "This Bird Has Flown." Electra--or a memento of her--shows up at the very end of the story.

I want to cuddle him too. He's little more than a baby, and he's trying so hard to be grown-up

And portraying a three-year-old's mind was tough, so I'm glad that I did so successfully. I was worried about that.

And here's more than you ever expected to hear about that particular star cluster, with quite a pretty picture:

You can also find out a bit about the sisters by looking them up on Encyclopedia Mythica.
...There are no words. There simply are no words. But I'll try anyway.
