I don't think this is a good bill, but I AM damned tired of seeing thieves download "shared" files of the books I worked hard to write. I do think pirate sites should be shut down if it can be proven that they allow piracy of copyrighted works, and repeat offenders should be barred.

SOME sites are very, very good about policing themselves. Some make it nearly impossible to report piracy (requiring written complaints, expensive membership to get the actual links to stolen material, etc.)

A free internet should not mean free to steal with impunity.

I agree. It shouldn't mean freedom to steal. But I think that it's possible to control piracy without going off the deep end into censorship. And much of the bill, from what I've seen, is based on faulty information.

Oh, it's overkill. No matter how legislation is done on this, it's going to be skewed for corporate ownership. The copyright laws we already have would suffice if they were enforced for small copyright holders.
