Hurricane Irene IV

It's bucketing down now, but I still have power. Then again, the storm is moving very slowly. The eye is due to make landfall on Long Island around noon tomorrow. According to CBS:

The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Irene's sustained winds were topping out at 80 mph while the storm was moving north-northeast at a 17 mph clip. It was ( Read more... )

hope you are ok. I wonder why people talk about the eye? I mean that's the centre of it, so you get bad well before the eye, the eye is calm and then you have the same bad afterwards!

I'm very glad that I'm not in NY! All those skyscrapers and high winds? Yeah, not a good combo.

I'm okay. We lost power for a couple of minutes this morning shortly after I woke up, but no more than happens in any rainstorm that goes on for three solid days.

From what I've been reading, Irene has been downgraded to tropical storm. Still lots of power outages due to heavy winds, but not nearly the damage that was predicted.
