I heard some horrible news. Elisabeth Sladen, who played Sarah Jane Smith on Doctor Whoand The Sarah Jane Adventures, died of cancer yesterday at 63.
Russell T. Davies paid tribute to Elisabeth Sladen here. As did John BarrowmanI suppose it's foolish of me, but I feel like I've lost a friend ( Read more... )

*hugs back* There are a lot of reasons to miss her, but alas, I'm not very coherent at the moment.

I am with you. I started with the 3rd doctor, Pertwee and went to see whatever went before; this was in 1974 i guess. I totally loved Elizabeth and the other cute perky companion, Jo Grant. But Sladen's role ... honestly I cheered when she made other appearances and balled my eyes out when she was gone. I never loved other companions the way I loved her - could not and cannot say why, only that she touched something inside.
Glad to see she touched so many other people with her charm and wit and wonderful odd smile.

Sarah Jane just Really Had Something. She was compassionate, gentle, and yet fiesty, strong, determined, stubborn and really knew how to handle the Doctor. She left a lasting impression.

She really did have Something. With a capital S.

You know, I barely remember "The Hand of Morbius." But I remember Sarah Jane leaving at the end, and that broke my heart.

When Katy Manning said in the Tribute that Lis was "The Doctor Who Girl, without a doubt", I bawled my eyes out.

Me too.

Lis had a quiet, unaffected beauty about her, and her smile lit up a room. I know some people who met her, and they tell me that she was just as warm and lovely in real life as she seemed in character.

That doesn't surprise me. She always came across as a warm, loving, gracious lady. And wherever she is now...well, I don't think any of that has changed.

If there's any justice, Jon, Nick and Lis went off in a specially designed TARDIS, and they're having a perfectly marvelous time exploring the afterlife together.
