This is the full version of the Cluracan fic I wrote for the Heathen Gods Challenge. It's not the version that got posted to the Challenge, because of character limitations on comment posts.
Thank you! That's always an important test, to see if those less familiar with the fandom can understand a story.
The Cluracan--the ambassador of the Elf-Queen Titania, and a reckless, lying, likeable rogue who enjoys drinking far too much--and his younger sister Nuala show up in Book 4 of the Sandman series, Season of Mists. Nuala becomes a semi-regular character after that, while the Cluracan guest stars in a story in Book 8, Worlds' End. Both play crucial roles in Book 9, The Kindly Ones. In the final book, The Wake, the Cluracan meets his Nemesis, who tells the Cluracan where it will hunt him down:
"And it won't be in the Dreaming, where I was born, nor in Faerie, where you began, but in the wide worlds between I'll come for you, hide and run how you may."
I finally managed to read all of the Sandman, including the Kindly Ones and the Wake. Then I remember an awesome PotC/Sandman crossover of yours which I didn't get at the time because I had not read the Sandman I decided to hunt it down and read it, because I knew it was going to be good.
And it was. I finally realize how well you characterized the Cluracan - smart enough to know when to run away, but not smart enough to stay on the path.
I wish you would write more Sandman fix. So far, this one and HonorH's Endless Encounters are the only ones I've read and they've both been crossovers.
