Day 21 -- Favorite ship. Here's the thing--I suck at shipping romantic pairs. I really do, even if the pairing is canonical. So rather than talk about favorite romances--and there are so few that I care about that I can't truly be said to HAVE any favorites--I'm going to talk about favorite non-romantic relationships. Because those interest me more ( Read more... )

That Criminal Minds scene is one of the best ever.

The Tams are great - I rarely see a brother and sister that aren't WORST ENEMIES EVER OMG or that somehow miraculously never interact, so it's fantastic to see them squabble a bit but basically be amazingly devoted family.

I'll second the rec for the Starbuck-Helo and Dee-Gaeta friendships. They never get together, and don't seem to want to! And not because they find each other somehow lacking, since they are good friends. It's fantastic. Dee and Gaeta got the narrative shaft, since they kept not worshiping main characters appropriately (Dee divorced one, Gaeta mutinied... both for justifiable reasons, imo). Plus Gaeta was a bisexual geek of color and disabled by the end, and Dee was black and explicitly had a severe case of depression, so there was no way TV-land would give them happy endings. But they stuck together as friends through all the awful things the writers threw at them.

I love that the writers GOT it--that you can squabble with your family and still love them to pieces. And they did, even when they were exasperating the life out of each other.

...damn. Now I'm sorry I never saw this show, despite the awful ending. Because this sounds interesting.

Well, they have additional fail in that people are only allowed to be gay or bi in spinoff movies and webisodes, not the main show. But it still counts! They're trying a little harder in the prequel Caprica, where one of the Adama men (the Adamas are space Latin@s who speak ancient Greek and work for the space Mafia... long story) has a husband. Of course he is also a mob assassin. On the other hand, pretty much every character is capable of awful things, and he's one of the nicer ones.
