I liked old Who, at least Doctors 4 and 5, who are the only ones I've really seen. (Though I think I'd like some of the others.) And I liked Christopher Eccleston's Who, but I haven't cared for either the romantic stuff or the darker and edgier leaning. I also feel like, especially post Eccleston, new Who suffers from the problem of superhero fiction - humans are mostly useless and incapable. It's had its moments, and I liked Donna as a companion, but the show completely pissed me off with what they did to her.

Oh, I totally agree. Mind-raping Donna was terrible. And I really couldn't care less about shipping the Doctor with anyone. To me it's an adventure series, so show me some adventure!

Personal fanon--the Doctor may have made Donna's conscious mind forget, but her subconscious didn't. And her subconscious mind kept smuggling her conscious one hints about what she needed to do and how she could fix what was wrong so that she could remember everything, access the Time Lord part of her mind, and NOT burn up.

I also think that the first thing she did was find a way off-planet, and that she took Wilfred with her. (I don't think her husband lasted long.) And when she finally found the Doctor, she gave him a good chewing out for trying to hit a mental re-set button.

That's my story, anyway. Because the canon makes me scream.

I like your fanon. :D

(The new show seems to have serious issues with their women characters - they can come up with good ones, but they have a bad tendency to either abandon or destroy them. Or forget about characters who really should still exist - I can't for the life of me figure out why new-Who hasn't realized that Romana should still be out in E-space. Then again, this is the show that let the Doctor's daughter just go sailing off never to be seen again and mindraped Donna, etc...)

Hey, that gives me an idea! (Because of course Jenny is out there having fantastic adventures and having a wonderful time for herself.)

I really love the Classic Who -- you could really tell that the show was good because it was obvious they were in a studio, it was obvious those dudes were totally in rubber costumes, but the story and the actors really sold it. I mean, I'm rediscovering my love for Classic Who because one of my friends on my flist discovered the Second Doctor, and it's really just bringing back all of the stories I really loved ( ... )

And the many, many alien planets which seemed to be nothing but blank corridors! And yes, you're right. They REALLY sold it. They loved what they were doing, most of the time, and it showed.

I did like the Ninth Doctor, though the Tenth Doctor got on my nerves, especially with the romance angle with Rose. "Rose is my one true love!" and even when Martha was around, it was, "I wish ROSE were here!"The thing was, I didn't mind Rose during the first season. I really didn't. I didn't even mind her absorbing the Time Vortex and saving the Doctor ( ... )

Ahh, the corridors used to run away from alien monsters. <3 I think that's one of the reasons why I keep thinking, "I could film a Doctor Who story!" after watching one of the serials. Because it seems very simple ( ... )

Yes. Rose should have died. If they'd killed her off -- and what an exit! -- I'd probably still be watching, but instead of a heroic end she turned back into a whiny git. I liked Ecclestone's doctor but never did warm up to Tennant's -- he reminds me of a little overbred dog -- and RTD's Marysue Rose just got on my nerves. I don't like the new one, either, though my wife's enjoying it.

They're going through regenerations too fast. Although they can always say the tardis exposure that killed off Dr Nine reset his regens.
