The Battle for Communication Continues

Aug 24, 2009 19:13

I just tried to send an e-mail re: state health care cuts to Congressman John Larson, who's been rather vocal in support of health care reform.

I filled out the form twice. I sent a good long thorough letter.

This is what I got twice in return:

Status: 404 Not Found

That's right. The e-mail form on Larson's webpage--like the phone number for ( Read more... )

health, blatant stupidity, battle for health care, politics, coomunication issues

Even in Kentucky I could get ahold of Congresspeople! That's ridiculous!

How do you call for a dial-a-ride? Maybe someone there can give you a working contact number.

There are different numbers for Dial-A-Ride depending on whether you're in Bristol, Greater Hartford, Meriden, New Britain, New Haven, Stamford, Wallingford or Waterbury. From there, it's an automated system. You know the type:

"To make a reservation or cancel a reservation, press one. To speak to a dispatcher, press two. For an ADA application, press three..."

Since you say the slug who started this was a Republican... I wonder if this is part of a scheme to render existing government programs useless to add to their "you don't want to trust the government with healthcare, do you?" refrain.

No, of course not, why would I want healthcare regulated by someone we can VOTE for, as opposed to greedy SOBs who have no goals outside their own profit$..?

grr.

Oh Genius. Is there no sort of centralised (yes, I know, the US) government law that proscribes this sort of stupidity? Or that you could smack and get us to smack for you too?

I believe that congresspeople are supposed to keep lines of communication open, but I'm not sure if it's a law or not. I'll have to find out.

Tomorrow I will try calling Larson's local offices. And Sen. Christopher Dodd's, and state senator Jonathan Harris's, and my state representative Andrew Fleischmann.

I just found out about this from your previous post. Is there any news articles about this so I could post this on a few sites?

Also, here's the Huffington Post contact page: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/contact/

I haven't found any, no, and I've been searching for such stories since hearing about the proposed budget cuts from AARP. From what I have found through independent searches, there seems to be a conflict between those who are trying to support such programs and find the money for them despite a massive deficit and those who are saying that the focus has to be the deficit and that the state has to cut expenses wherever possible.

(Which--I can understand both sides. I just don't like worrying whether I'm going to be one of the cut expenses when the legislature comes back into session.)

I have heard from Jonathan Harris's office. This is what he said:

Thank you for taking the time to write to me regarding this important issue.

I agree 100%. I have and will continue to protect seniors and those with disabilities. The budget situation is so difficult and complex that it is very hard to guarantee a result. However, I will continue to deliver this message to my leadership.

Be well and keep in touch.Which isn't really very specific ( ... )
