Ivy! ♥ This made me grin madly, particularly the part with Kincaid and drawing up the contract with crayons.

Thanks! It took a while to get started but once it got into gear, I couldn't stop.

And I hope you also like the Charity one I'm writing for FemGen.

I'd like to see fic about Charity! I didn't like her much the first few times she showed up in the books, but that was mostly because she gave Harry such a hard time and I'm kind of overprotective as far as Harry's concerned. I liked her a lot better from Proven Guilty onwards, since it explained a lot of things about her. Plus, she is pretty damn kickass.

Oh, that is so freaking adorable there are no words. That's everyone to a T. I am stunned by the cute.

Aww, cute! For some reason, Kincaid manifests in my head as Adam Baldwin, which makes it all even more adorable. Love the way you write Ivy and her three dads, who all, I'm sure, like to think they have absolutely nothing in common. I especially like the way you wrote in that quietly profound moment when Harry gave her a name. He does that so much--not just his pets, but Bob, Ivy, Lash and Demonreach. There's gotta be something to it, and I think you might've hit on something that'll come up later in the series as regards Ivy.

Really looking forward to the Charity one, too.

Now that you mention it, apparently he does in my head, too. At least ever since I finished watching Firefly.

And not only with those characters, but with others. Lea, for example. "The Leanansidhe" isn't a name, it's a title; "leannan" in Gaelic means "sweetheart" or "concubine." But Harry calls her "Lea"--and has effectively given her a name and an identity separate from Mab's domain of Winter.

Or the Denarians...who, while still formidable, seem to have weakened a bit since Harry dubbed them "the Nickelheads." (Keep in mind that it took three Knights to fight one Denarian in Death Masks. Over the course of Small Favor, Harry and his friends went up against NINETEEN of them. And, despite injuries, everyone survived.)

Oh, yes, I think Harry's power to name is significant. And likely to become more so. Especially since he doesn't seem to realize he's doing anything.

I've never pictured Kincaid as Adam Baldwin, but now that you've described him that way, I can't get it out of my head.

As for Charity--15 pages and counting.

Wow, I was just going back through old fics that I liked and then I read your comment here. Wow. I never thought about the naming bit before, but you're totally right. I wonder if it's Naming in general -- which we know is powerful -- or if it's Harry Naming people that is specifically powerful. With a few more books having been published now, have you updated your theory?

This is wonderful! After I finished Small Favor, the fic I most wanted to read was one of Harry, Kincaid, and Marcone parenting Ivy -- and this is exactly the fic I've been waiting for for a year. Lovely and poignant and I love your Kincaid and Marcone, who happen to be two out of three of my favorite characters in the series. (Your Harry and Ivy, too, I just spend less time thinking about them in the books.) Thank you!

Oh, thank you! I've wanted such a fic since Small Favor myself. Plus, I have a soft spot for Kincaid, who can swear up and down that he's just protecting Ivy for the money but who can't make me believe him, and for Marcone, who has, shall we say, ISSUES with innocent little girls being hurt. (No way that Marcone got off that island and just forgot about Ivy. No way at all.)
