I'm ripping this idea off of limyaael. While I don't pretend that my essays will be anywhere near as helpful or informative as her rants, it occurred to me that I do have a few opinions about writing, and that I could do worse than to ask you lot what you wanted to hear about.

All of those sounds fascinating, but most of all I'd love to hear what you have to say about villains. :)

So far, that one seems to be slightly ahead. Out of curiosity, why are you particularly intrigued by that one? ::interested::

Sorry about that half-finished reply that mysteriously vanished! They finished changing the oil in my car just as I was writing it, and I thought there was some kind of problem posting... Anyway. :)

As I was saying, I'm interested in hearing your take on villains because villains are so rarely characterized at all beyond "he's evil! very evil!" that I'm always fascinated by villain traits that are more complex.

I ticked one (how heroism can become compromised), but actually I'd love to hear your thoughts on all of these.

I'm going to end up doing all of them, I believe. I just want to know which I should do first.

I confess that I haven't seen it much in published fantasy or sci-fi, but fanfic more than makes up for it. I need to write something about it anyway, because so many people last summer wanted to write pregnancy stories for femgenficathon, despite the fact that the rules spelled out that pregnancy stories were not allowed. Quite a few people couldn't conceive--if you'll pardon the pun--of anything more stupendous for a heroine to do than get knocked up.

...I totally got a brainwave from one of those rants. (The world so needs a wheelchair-bound telekinetic!) Thanks for the link.
And I'm looking forward to reading your essays. They all sound fascinating.

The world DOES need a wheelchair-bound telekinetic. (Hey, he or she could push his/her chair with his/her mind!) But I have to wonder--hero, sidekick or villain?

And thanks. Hope the essays will be good.

...See, I don't know that part yet. I'll prolly figure it out when it's not 2:30 in the morning. But the seed of the idea's there, so no doubt I can figure something out with it.

:( So hard to choose! BTW, about pregnant heroines, did you read that new Bujold book?

No. I've only read one Bujold book, actually. It was a collection of stories about Miles.
