Part 1 of the commentary is here. Next up is Silver, the post-OotP Remus story. Hopefully, as that is fairly short, I'll be able to get the entire commentary into one post.
This might also have something to do with why he didn't go to Dumbledore after being turned; I can see him fearing that Dumbledore wouldn't try to free him from bondage to Voldemort, but would instead want to use him as a double agent. For the good of the world, of course. Always for someone's good. I like this idea but interestingly enough, the way I read it from your fic was that you'd set up a Peter and Dumbledore in which Peter would not go to Dumbledore because he already knew that Dumbledore was incabable of seeing things from his (peter's) PoV. Why would Dumbledore understand something like betraying the order to the Dark Lord when he can't even figure out why a muggle born little boy might not want to becomea Wizard

. . . btw, you'd mentioned earlier that you'd nearly finished prrofing the thing I'm working on.
I don't want to push on that account (cause I know what's up with your life right now!) but I did want to start penciling more detailed pages (deadline approches ^^). Did you have an issues with the first four pages large enough to warrant my redrawing anything? If not, I can start on those.
I love how you expand on canon without deviating from it. You give incredibly logical reasons for why characters act certain ways, and as you've pointed out, many of them actually come true in books. Not to mention you make Peter a sympathetic character which is fantastic. Seeing the reasons behind Peter's turning and betrayal makes him easier to understand and, while I don't particularly like what he's become in the books, I can understand it better.
I find myself compelled to read and reread your fic, especially this story, Stopped, Heroes and Bargains. I love the way you show Peter's slow transformation. It's just so frustrating. I think what's especially frustrating is I don't think anyone ever regrets Peter. Dumbledore, once Peter went from victim to evil betrayer, probably never spared his own role in Peter's life another thought. But then Dumbledore, for all his talk of choices, seems perfectly content feeling resigned over letting other people slip through his fingers in pursuit of the goal. Anyway, I love Bellatrix' sausage curls and Hufflepuff Rabastan and Nathan.

I agree with you completely. Dumbledore is--or was, since he's dead now, thank God--so completely fixed on the Greater Good that he doesn't seem to mind if other people suffer in the process. The notion that they might not want to suffer for his goals, or that there might be another way to achieve the Greater Good without the suffering, never seems to occur to him. And he does this repeatedly throughout the books, which makes it very hard for me to see him as a good person. Well-intentioned, perhaps. But not good.
Pardon me. I'm trying not to rant about this.

It would be a shame if Peter's character was flattened in that manner. I try very hard not to rant and make Dumbledore out to be a greater villain than Voldemort but sometimes I can't help it. Right after OotP I loved reading all the Independent Harry manipulative Dumbledore stories. (Ok some were a bit ridiculous and focused mainly on Harry taking a shopping trip and getting superpowers). It's just that while I didn't expect Dumbledore to save the world - he had this wonderful reputation and yet somany people suffered on his watch and because of his determination to do things a certain way. I think what I adore about your Peter is that he fits into JKR's world in a way that just works. I remember being so happy that Sirius Black was related to Narcissa and Bellatrix as well as the Weasleys and that Tonks' parents had their lovely Romeo and Juliet rebellion going on. It just made Sirius so much more colorful to be a blood-traitor in a different way than James (as opposed to the backgrounds given him before OotP). In the same
