Easter Eggs, Part 7

Twelve down, seven to go. This one is for anaid_rabbit, who wanted Lucius and Narcissa playing with child! Draco. Honestly, this story mutated a long way from the fluffy piece that it should have been.

There are not much stories from Narcissa`s POV - even less, in which she is not simply turned into comfortable-plot-device-for-the-author - so it was really great to see one. I love the way you describe Narcissa thinking about Blacks and Lucius, and the way Lucius plays with Draco. Thank you for writing this!

She would not mind Lucius serving him if the Dark Lord were more circumspect, more pragmatic. But he's reckless, drawing far too much attention to himself and to his followers. There is no real point in killing a few Muggles here and a few Mudbloods there--there are millions more. Avada-ing one by one would take too long. And the naïve, the cowardly and the sentimental have such primitive notions about appropriate pest control.

Careful, considered manipulation of politics and economics would take longer, but it would be a more certain win for their side. After all, killing the opposition accomplishes nothing but terror and rage and the creation of martyrs. To truly destroy one's enemies, you must manipulate them into willingly becoming what they hate…into someone exactly like you.You managed to describe in two amazingly worded paragraphs, precisely how I see Narcissa viewing Voldemort and the Death Eaters. She doesn't argue with the viewpoint; she argues with the technique. And she resents LV for stealing her husband's attention. ( ... )

This is an extraordinary glimpse into Narcissa's mind, and it rings true, even though we know so little about her. Wonderfully done.

I agree. I also love the way that you use baby Draco, and Narcissa's musings about him, as a means by which to reveal the underlying nature of the Black clan and individual motivations.

Beautifully written.

This is absolutely amazing. I love how Narcissa sees everything in terms of manipulation and master/slave relationships. She would never serve another person - she would only serve herself and her own goals, because she wouldn't want to be indebted to another being and become their slave. It's so fitting, as well, that the Blacks, including her, love so much, because that indebts them to other people no matter what.

I love the idea that Narcissa has some trouble relating to Draco. For some reason, I think that would explain a lot of his behavior. I like how you portray her in general; not a trophy wife, not weak and abused, but not Superwoman either. She's just a person, trying to make her way in the world.
