Wedding Dress Conundrum

May 28, 2013 18:08

Ever since Mike and I got engaged we haven't really done much wedding planning, primarily because we haven't set a date yet. Mike wants to wait until we've saved enough money, or have some idea of what kind of money we'll have, before setting a date. I haven't complained about it, since I understand the rationale, but I have been really itching to ( Read more... )

I just went through this with my daughter and we had so much fun while she was trying on dresses. She had a similar issue where she liked two dresses - one fussier than the other. The 'simpler' one was a gorgeous ivory lace with ivory underskirt, more form fitting than the other one but it just wasn't quite 'right'. The consultant told us to wait a minute and brought out another dress - it was the same style as the ivory lace dress except it was ivory lace with a champagne underskirt. She tried it on and just that little change of color changed the whole dress! It went from a "I like it but I'm just not sure" to "this is THE dress ( ... )

I do like the elegance of the lace dress and do wish the ruffled dress' waistline looked better. Clothes with that kind of waistline never looks particularly good on me. The consultant did say something about how the dress' waistline would change if I got a petite for that one. It's possible I could ask them about changing the waistline in alterations.

I'm definitely trying to keep in mind what Mike and I want and not letting anyone else taking over.

I really like the lace dress, but the ruffle one would be all sorts of fun to dance in, wouldn't it?

Maybe it would help to go back to the shop on your own at some point and try them both on again without the distractions of other people telling you what they think? Have a boogie in them and take some heels if you're going to be wearing them on the day to see if that changes things.

Yeah, it would be really nice to dance in, would probably be fun.

I did think about going to the shop on my own. But Jean's the one with the credit card to buy the dress and I would rather have someone there for some kind of support. I think I'll just ask her to refrain from making any comments and just let me figure it out myself.

The consultant had me in a small heel at first and I wore it briefly with the ruffle dress. But it was a sandal type shoe and really hurt so I took them off quickly.

Thanks for the advice.

You look absolutely gorgeous in all the dresses but I particularly like the lace dress on you. One thing to take into account is are you comfortable in the dress as you will be wearing it all day. I went to a wedding recently and the bride looked fabulous but she was continuously having to hitch her top up. She was joking about it but she wasn't entirely comfortable. Comfort is important because it's a long day. And that goes 100% more for the shoes you eventually pick. I speak from experience *g*.

Thank you!

I was definitely worried about having to pull up the dress since I've got a big chest and was pretty determined to wear strapless. But so far the undergarments I've worn have been really good and the dresses that fit well, I didn't have to worry about having to pull up the top.

I definitely want to be as comfortable as possible. My mom and Jean keep talking about getting me to wear heels, but I've never been comfortable with that and am thinking about alternatives. My mom said she was basically getting me some training heel shoes. She's going to buy me a pair of shoes with low heels so I can practice with them.

Thank you!

I did like the two more plain dresses, though I definitely liked the one (sixth down) with the diamond encrusted belt more. My biggest problem with it was the top. I was thinking of trying it on again and seeing if the consultant could fit the top better.

I don't want an overwhelming dress but I don't want one too plain either. I think the lace dress is probably a good combo of not overly complicated but not simple either.

Wish I was as decisive as you were. :)
